West Ham United (A) | Sun 7th Aug | Post Match Thread

We did well today. It was hot just watching let alone playing and even though we're nowhere near full fitness we looked good. Apart from the first two minutes, we totally controlled that game.

Defensively we were brilliant.
Ruben is the man and if Ake keeps playing like that it will take him getting injured for him to lose his place. Walker and Cancelo were brilliant in whatever roles they were playing, but it allowed Gundo and KDB to control midfield.
Grealish and Foden kept their defence stretched and played well, always working and the balls we were trying to put through for Erling finally paid off.

This lad is immense and his movement and speed is something else, his second goal was what we've been waiting for and talking about for ages.
I can't wait for him to settle ;-)) but seriously, this could get scary for the opposition.

A nice cameo for Alvarez too, we've replaced Jesus' work ethic with him and he's got a wicked shot.

All in all a great start to the season and looking forward to next week now.

COME ON CITY!!!

Is it just me and did Haaland appear a bit pissed off when Pep substituted him..?
Erling will learn that Pep is doing it to make him even better. I'd bet you a fiver Alfie's lad will say that himself in 5 years time when he is.

So do you think he had a good game too?
Overall no. He was much improved in the second half than the first half but he has to let the shackles off and take more risks.I think he has to do better, I've said before I think this season he will shine but I'd much prefer to see him in a more central role, I reckon he would be able to effect a game a lot more playing centrally, I don't think he is a wide man.

He was getting grief in the match thread from the experts on here. There's a few on here with a clear agenda against him. Which I find sad. But there you go, that's their choice.
It always seems to be those who came with a high transfer fee. Joleon was another, who was the target of the know (fuck) alls, just because he cost a lot of money.

Grealish at times was sloppy but a much more satisfied game overall imo, he was very disciplined & gave us width all game

You can pick out moments each player gave a shit pass today but overall Jack was very good

Ake was also decent today can't fault him

Ever the pessimist, I expected a hard-fought draw but the lads played some good stuff, comfortable as you like it. My personal highlight was Alvarez twatting cnut-gob Zouma straight on his cnut gob with the ball in the dying minutes. Future legend in the making he is, our Julian.
Alvarez did it for the cats!

Thought as much....

Let's discuss again at the end of the season then.

As I keep saying, I'm not knocking Sterling for his overall efforts and I'm not comparing them as strikers. All I'm saying is Haaland will score more than Sterling did from the same position. That's the point, simple as. I don't know how many times I need to explain it.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong but I don't see it, and I doubt that many other people will too.

It's a stupid discussion anyway because 1v1s will never make up a high % of chances for our forwards. Being good at them is not that important.

Sterling still scored more goals than anyone else in the squad for as long as he was here because being able to find space in a crowded box and score from 6-15 yards out is the most important thing for a City forward.

Excellent win away from home in hot conditions in a game we always controlled. Looks like we've got the real deal in Haaland and an assured new penalty taker too. Really surprised at West Ham who gave us so much trouble last season but who never tried to put us under sustained pressure. Seemed like they just wanted to get 11 behind the ball and give us no space in behind.
Now Zouma knows how the cat feels after Alvarez smacked his face from close range - karma.
