Wetherspoons

Always a good starting point. MUtW was the first pub in Manc to sell Red Stripe on draught, so for that reason alone it's awesome.
And of course there is 'The Wetherburger'.
The only shit one is that one on the corner near the Crown, opposite oddbins. Whoever designed the bar area there needs a fucking punch.

You really know they are serving shit when they can serve a burger & a pint for £4

Not neccesarily true.....they can do it so cheap purely because they do it in such a large volume. (As does my missus's lot who can do a carvery at just £3.89 in their Crown Carveries chain. And it is good quality fresh food they use)

Wetherspoons need to train the managers and staff on keeping their cask beers better though. The Paramount on Oxford Road is the only one where the manager (and his missus) prides himself on how well they are kept.
But ive sampled it & it is as i said..........shit!

Sorry Mr Gourmet.....I am sure they will miss your 4 quid as you return to dine at The Savoy each lunchtime again.....meanwhile those who are happy with it and the price, will continue in their thousands....

I am only basing this on the ash tree in ashton,so i guess i cant label them all shite!

so i guess i cant label them all shite!

Oh I dunno, most of JD Wetherspoon's meals are pre prepared by 3663 catering in a massive factory near the M42. So if you find it shite in one branch, you will find it shite in another because it's the same stuff.

I don't think Gaudinho's being particularly fair, but it's the usual reverse snobbery tactic. Apparently just because you don't like Wetherspoons food some people will always label you as some kind of lah-de-dah willy woofter, mega rich toff who eats at the Savoy 3 times a day.

In reality, some people like it and that's fine. Some (including me) don't. And that's fine too. I'll go and eat somewhere else, I find Wetherspoons to be depressing places full of overly drunk people at stupidly early times of the day. I prefer a normal pub.

Nah mate, was just having a laugh re Savoy comment......just pointing out that for £4 for a pint and a burger you can't expect top quality food, but it can be decent and edible. Many seem to think so.

And like you, I prefer 'normal' pubs meself, but have to give them credit for taking all the pissheads into many of their pubs and out of the good ones, lol.

Fair one Gaudinho. I can't be too high and mighty because now and then I do go in one for a quick pint, (I have 2 pubs in my suburb, a Wetherspoons and an independent over the road), so I'll go for a quick cheap pint or two before moving on to quiz night over the road. Steak night seems to be popular, so good luck to the locals in there. Can't say I fancy it... but Wetherspoons fill a niche and you have to give them some credit for a profitable marketing plan.

A fantastic chain of pubs, the best in the country for it's market. Good food and great beer at affordable prices with great festivals on throughout the year. The menu has a diverse variety so you can always have a change and the dedicated curry & steak nights can't be beaten, a marvellous idea when you want some good food and great drink after you've had a hard day at work and don't feel like cooking. The ale festivals are great, they allow you to taste the ale before you buy, will top it up to your required amount and even let you use CAMRA discount vouchers, looking after the drinkers. Even when it's not a festival they're still swapping and changing the guest ales from around the area, fabulous. It really allows you to develop your pallet. The range of liquors is great and the pricing is even better, who wouldn't want to double up for an extra £1. They allow you to feel well travelled when really you're sat in Scunthorpe on a wet Monday night, so yes please I'll have some SKYY vodka, huge in the big apple. The atmosphere is fantastic, no loud wishy washy music on which drowns out your conversation with your mates, a pub which allows to get together and have a great conversation with some great drinks and good food. No pool tables to take up space which means more tables, you'll always get a table when you're wanting some good food at an affordable price.

What a fantastic place J.D Wetherspoon is.

Good lad and a blue season ticket holder also.
