We've been shit before. We'll be shit again. So what?

basically im the oldest on this thread. makes a change. i feel like a wise, old chinese man advising the youth against the evil that is manchester united.
Lead us into the light oh davymcfc, and do not let the young minds wander over to the tempting red. For they are the seductive apple, whereas City are the ugly grapefruit, which may look horrible, and it may taste disgusting for a while, but the aftertaste of being a better fan is sweeter than that apple.

manchester city are eagles flying in the blue sky.
manchester united are the devils work and pure evil.
choose the path of evil and have no soul for all eternity.
choose the path of faith and loyalty and you will be rewarded with great riches.

Mate, that comment shows you are defeated. It actually saddens me that our young supporters have been brought up to feel that way.

The Sheikh is going nowhere. YOu don't invest like he's done for no reason. And you can't just sell a club without a buyer.

I feel sorry for young blues if they are so browbeaten by the new breed of armchair gloryhunters.

We're better than Liverpool, we're within a whisker of Man United. That is serious progress. I promise you that progress will be maintained.

good op. think some people have forgot this.

the whole football world seems to be against us at the min, we need to shut up shop, build that them against us attitude and get behind the team am sick of heairng city fans moan at eachother and the players when we need to band together

You have pessimistic genes when you're a blue. Don't blame him. ;)

How many rags will visit your facebook if their team gets pasted at COMS ?

And how many Everton fans will come on if they finish below City , and we grab a Champions League place ?

Think about it ....... you could find yourself talking to yourself!

That advert actually fundamentally misses the point.

When people go fishing with a rod and line, invariably they do it for sport, for fun, for the challenge, for competition even.

Every angler knows they could just buy a huge net or a hand grenade and have every fish in the lake within a few minutes.

But they choose not to do it because that's not the point - it's all about the skill, the challenge over adversity, the finesse and the sheer fun.

There's an allegory in here somewhere.

What kind of brainless knob wants to tag along with some brash, soulless bandwagon where the grim collection of endless trophies leaves you ultimately numb? Where the real fans feel so disillusioned from thir club the?y start their own? Where the ground is filled with mindless sheep and kiddies who really don't care?

Having your fish delivered on your lap while you sit, bored, waiting for the next one must be fucking shit.

Superb Dave.

As a Salford Blue who actually broke rank from his red family and chose his football team rather than vice versa.....this is spot on.

What makes it great though is that my Dad (match going red, on their books in the 50/60s) has had a season ticket at City for some time now and hates them as much as me.

Normally, I'd say you never change clubs. Sometimes though, it's just right to do so.

There's a new topic in that post, m27.

I know quite a few passionate blues who supported other clubs as kids.

I went to the 1978 LEague Cup Final, Forest v Liverpool. I supported Forest for a couple of years after that, even though my Dad carried on taking me to City.

I changed back in 1980. I reckon there are more there out there who do that than people realise.

I never supported anyone else but I was taken to United as an 8 year old; UEFA Cup games, big League games but I just didn't like it and my Dad sensed it.

So, from nowhere he decides to take me to City v Palace in the 84/85 season and the rest is history.

My Dad though..his get out clause to his family and my Mam's family is that he played that much football as a kid and a young man he didn't really have 'a club'. If I speak to him on his own though he opens up. "Son, I just didn't realise supporting a football club could be so emotional. It's just different."

I love that man.

-- Sat Mar 27, 2010 12:13 am --

Sorry Dave, I ignored your point. You're right, I'd say until 12 years old you haven't got a clue really (although I must say I realised at 8 years old United were c*nts!). I remember owning a Liverpool shirt at Primary School. God knows why.

My Dad chose city at 42 years old. Brilliant.

fuckin ell, your depressed now? glad you werent a city fan when i was growin up. we were fuckin shockin. you would have been suicidle.

^^^Whilst us "older" fans know what it's like to have REALLY shit times, and can smile when younger fans complain, we do at least have our memories of when the rags were pretty shite and had the likes of Sexton in charge and Birtles up front and were all bitter and envious of Liverpools superiority..!
The kids today have only ever known football bein dominated by them and Ferguson... which isn't a nice thought.
