I was of the opinion before his bad injury that Laporte doesn't read the game very well and is far too reactive to be a 'top' defender. His injury was largely self-inflicted, due to him trying to tackle with the wrong foot. Anyone who has played the game would have seen that - It wasn't the first time and it wasn't the last... He's all over the shop.
Dias and Stones (and in my opinion, Nathan Ake) read danger better and are more proactive (and therefore more reliable) defenders than Laporte.
It must be frustrating for any coach to see multi-million pound players making basic errors. He's not 'Mangala level' of bad, but Laporte is almost certainly at number four in our list of central defenders, and I can't see him being at City next season.
