It's all about flexibility and ability to fit into different roles. Laporte is no more than a standard 'up and down' centre back who will work hard but is very lmited. No better than Jonny Evans imo.
I think we may well see Ake more involved before next season. He's quick, ideal as CB in a four or left side of a back three and can fit in as DM if needed. He's much more of a Pep-style player.
Just my view but Laporte is a first class centre half who would walk into any team in the league, in fact in my view any team in europe, He has had a horrible injury but has come back strong, its great we have the re-emergence of Stones - again for me capable of getting into any team in the league/europe, Dias awesome, and I do like Ake for sure, we are really fortunate to have so many strong defenders. Laporte though is as I say, first class.

I think Pep may have been talking about Angelino's comments recently as far as if you aren't helping you're on the bench. If he is talking about our players the comments didn't really make sense last night with who was on the bench. I doubt he would want to cause a divide in the dressing room at this point in the season. I don't think it's his style to throw players under the bus to the media especially after saying that City have achieved what they have with no outside help from anyone.

That's a proper hatchet job , Laporte was widely considered the 2nd best defender after the "best defender in the world" at the Dippers before Laporte suffered his serious injury , dont mind people's opinions of a player its their entitlement , but don't re-write history , Laporte was a brilliant defender before his injury and is still a very competent replacement for either Stones or Dias. As for preferring Nathan Ake or Garcia ........really ?

I never mentioned Garcia... He'd be about number 8 on my list of CBs currently at City!

As you suggest, it's all about opinions. It's not a 'hatchet job'... Just my view. I don't think Laporte has ever looked anywhere near a world class defender at City, and certainly not the confident leader we needed post-Kompany.
There may be a number of reasons why he's never really figured in the French squad, but it's entirely possible that Didier Deschamps shares my view.

He's probably thinking that the Chumps is beyond his team in the knockout phases with the squad he has available to him.

- A GK that is useless at saving pens.
- A RB that has brain-dead moments creeping into his game.
- A RB that is more effective floating in MF.
- A CB that is now third choice and errors creeping into his game.
- One functioning LB without a reliable backup.
- A DM on his last legs.
- A RW who can blow hot or cold.
- A world class MF slowly being nursed into action.
- A world class striker slowly being nursed into action.
- An offside striker that is more effective on the left.
- A rookie as an emergency striker.
- A front man who's touch, goals and form has deserted him.

Other than that, its looking good for the PL title.
I guessing you’re a glass half full sort of guy

However, he does have one thing going for him - you can’t get into the ground to “support” his team

I got the distinct impression that someone within the squad has pissed him off. He definitely sounded like he was sending a not too subtle message, along the lines of don’t be rocking the boat or you’ll find yourself out of the team.

I think he was just pissed with the most outrageous VAR decision he, and us, have likely ever seen. And likely will ever see again. It was an embarrassment to the Premier League, and English football, that bad.

That was not one of their usual subliminal cheating, borderline calls, where they put 3d lines on a picture then manipulate Ball contact, and Frame rates for their desired result.

It was 100% in your face overt cheating.

At the time it was 1-1 and we were not playing great.

I also agree with his sentiments, everything we have won over 4 years, we have won, with no help.

Nothing wrong with VAR.

Other than the fact VAR is being used as another method for cheating by those within the Premier League with ulterior motives.

Time we brought in top officials from over seas with no Premier League Club affiliations to do VAR reviews.

Cheating bastards.
More than Var I think. His pre match presser was more vocal than usual. He spoke about no thinking on Ferna & Sergio contract situations until the international break. He also said it was the serious part of the season and no time to give people game time to get more minutes into them. He alluded to decisions to be made later about loans and people with contracts maybe moving on. I think what Angelinho said and Klopp's whinging about money, the derby loss and the negative attitude towards the club are giving him the hump. He also spoke about people staying on the bench and playing those who supported him through the season from now on. Maybe just squeaky bum time but I get the feeling he wants those 4 trophies badly so he can stick 2 fingers up at City's detractors, no more Mr. Nice Guy until June IMHO.
