Really difficult to pinpoint.
General football:
I remember loving the Dutch team of the mid 90s, which was very similar to the Ajax team of the same era. The de-boer brothers, Seedorf, Davids, Kluivert etc.
The Juventus - Ajax CL final in 96 I remember well, and one of my earliest genuine memories (I was 7). I think the final the following year was Juve - Dortmund?
Euro 1996 is probably the first tournament I really remember. The hammering of Netherlands being a vivid memory, as well as that Gazza goal against Scotland.
The World Cup in 1998 was amazing, too. I just remember how gutted I was upon hearing Ronaldo had been ill the night before the final, was devastated!
City-wise
- My first ever game was the 2-2 against Liverpool when we went down. Barely remember any of the game, but just remember meeting loads of people at the services just by Westbrook in Warrington, and travelling down from there.
- Losing 2-0 at home to Oxford, and a guy behind me saying 'shut up you 2' to the travelling Oxford fans when they were singing. My Dad walked out early - I said 'is it finished?'. He said, 'no, but it is for me'.
- Play off final - the 2 main things I remember about that:
- By Penalties I had a terrible headache, and on the journey home just stopping for petrol at service stations and City fans everywhere, just hugging each other. Was amazing. There was also a smell in a Service station toilet, which will, sadly, stay with me forever. But the less said about that the better.
