And a great read.
Definitely. I read it a few years ago. They've got quite a few books cheap at the moment

This one has been sitting on my shelf for years. Is it that good a read then?

I didn't think so. Waded through it wondering what all the hype was for. I never found out.
If its theUnderworld trilogy in particular you are talking about, then the Nathan Heller series by Max Allan Collins is very good mate. Crime fiction woven around real people and events in 30s-60s American history. Reading Jimmy The Stick by Michael Mayo at the moment, gangster stuff set around the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.poh said:jimmy blue shoes said:poh said:I am out of books at the minute,so have started to read the James Elroy underworld trilogy again,American Tabloid,The Cold Six Thosand, and Bloods a Rover, fantastic stuff.
Brilliant.
You can almost believe Elroys version of American history to be true. It is that well written.
A conspiracy theorists dream!
Forgot to mention,if anyone can recommend any other author in the style of Elroy i would be greatful,ta
