What book are you reading now / or recommend?

Philip K. Dick - Ubik

Reading a lot of PKD the past few months. People think its science fiction...uh uh...just brilliantly crazy mind bending philosophy fiction that often takes place in settings that are typical of science fiction.

Bloody hell Stony, your a reading machine.

Haha, I go through phases. Sometimes I get through a 2/3 books in a week for a few month, and then I won't read anything for months. Longest phase lasted about 3 years. I had a job that was a lot of waiting around doing nothing, so I always had a book on the go. The kindle is a godsend. My house no longer resembles the sci fi/fantasy section of the local library.

M.A.S.H. - Richard Hooker

I had no idea that Altman's film was based on a novel. Wife gave it to me last night....halfway through. Quite good. Very Catch-22 esque.

I've read a few Denis Lehane novels recently, including Mystic River, Shutter island and The Drop. Plus his gangster novels. Highly recommended.

For anyone who enjoyed the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books, some cheeky bastard has taken it upon himself to just write a new one, despite the fact that the author of the first three is dead.

Yes i know what you mean. I used to read a lot before i had my little boy, now its pretty much limited to when i work away and can do a few books over a trip away. Also helps if i can get into a good series. Just finished another 4 Feist books about Talon the Silver Hawk. Another great set of books from him.

Gang War: The Inside Story of the Manchester Gangs by Peter Walsh

A fascinating read that also brought back memories of a murdered friend who was just in the wrong place.

Benji?

Great book, I heard the Mancunian underworld wasn't too happy with Peter.

It was the lad who was trying to break up the fight in town, Nic Centi. We went to the same school in Stretford.

Interesting to know that the gang bosses were unhappy. I'm not surprised. However, as we know, the amount of murders during the time was bigger than Peter Walsh reports. Two guys I trained with a bit at Peter Street YMCA were murdered and they didn't get a mention in the book.

The BFG to my daughter, reading Roald Dahl every night and remembering just why I loved them so much as a kid
