What do we need?

We won the league but we failed miserably in all the cup competitions. I feel that contrary to popular belief our squad is a bit too thin for 4 competitions. It's pretty obvious that Mancini will be looking to do a double somewhere, so we need to add more depth.

The goalkeeper and wingback positions super covered. However in defense we need a very reliable cb. However I don't think that we need a world class defender if it will cost too much. Lescott Kompany pairing is already great enough and apart from the QPR mistake, Lescott was world class this year. I feel like Savic, Kolo and Boyata are decent cover to Lescott-Kompany however Martinez will be the perfect choice.

In the midfield we are definitely lacking and Mancini knows, that's why he got Hargreaves and Pizarro to add as cover. we have 4 center and defensive midfielders right now(De jong, Yaya, Barry and Milner), compared to last season and if we need to go far in the Champions league, keep the title and win one domestic cup we need at least one more center/defensive midfielder. Another important factor is we are way too reliant on Yaya. I mean without him we look like Liverpool or something. If he gets injured or he goes to the AFCON we need someone that can bring something forward. Obvious choice is Martinez, Can play defensive midfielder greatly, is great moving forward, has great passes, and ESPECIALLY can play super well in defense. So he is the most obvious choice.

Now Kevin Prince Boateng as somebody mentioned is actually a great alternative choice. He's vice captain at Milan, has played in the EPL already, is young, and can play, CM, AM and occasionally DM. So actually he would be a very good choice. It is said Milan is looking to sell either Robinho, Cassano, Pato or Prince to sponsor their summer, so he would be available cheaper. Now someone said he had an attitude problem. Hmmm never heard of it, I mean the guy is vice captain at Milan and does pull out some wicked Michael Jackson impressions.

I would add Mateo Kovacic too. AMAZING talent in the CM role and he is 18 right now. The best is that he is out of contract in June.

Finally we need a winger or attacking midfielder THAT CAN SCORE GOALS and create chances. One of the things I actually have not liked from Silva apart from his half seasons is the fact that he scores rarely. For a person of his talent 10-15 goals per season in a 50 games season would be so much better. 8 goals in 43 games is not enough. We have 3 attacking midfielders right now and only one is a true winger who is pretty inconsistent so we need to address that for next season. Hazard was my first and only real choice because he can dribble, create chances and score. But he's lost so Gaston Ramirez won't be bad. (There are a lot of other good choices)

For the strikers if we don't sell anyone we can't buy and would have to actually address the Guidetti situation.

We need Manuel Fernandes he is a low cost quality midfielder who would bring so much to city.

lets all sign a petition to bring him to the club!

I plus 1000 this. Give Savic a break he's 21 and was super promising till people started crusading him after the Liverpool game. I have a lot of faith in him and why bother Mancini won't sell him.

Ohh Please enough of this SAVIC is still a kid excuse ! For god's sake take a look at the following young defenders and see if you can compare them to Savic
1.Phil Jones is 20 years old
2.Smalling is 22 years old
3.vertonghen is 20 years old
4.Davide Santon is 21 years old
5.Kyle walker is 21years old

And Savic is 21 years old YET savic cannot be compared to any of the other young defenders mentioned above. I don't see any kid in Savic rather what i see is a Lazy 21 year old who looks like an anorexic runway model . I would suggest we get BOYATA back and savic can be loaned or better still SOLD . He wouldn't improve , he looks clumsy in the field and he just doesn't have the work rate to cover up for his inexperience , He can't play as CB or WB , he wouldn't hit the gym to build up some body weight , he is very poor in the air etc . I can go on and on but the question remains where the hell did Mancini get this guy and why ? Not all young players are promising and i hate to say this but savic falls into this category of young players . Mancini should sit him down , tell him thanks for your contribution and send him to Anzhi or some other eastern european club . I believe they would spend TONS of cash on him .

Vertonghen is 25 btw....

Until Mancini deems Savic not good enough we should as city fans support the lad. All of them bar Santon and Vertonghen have played in England all their lives so they have experience of the league, players and so on.

Okay so we can take Vertonghen off the list but it still doesn't change the fact that Savic isn't promising in ANYWAY .

-- Fri Jun 01, 2012 2:39 pm --

The question is why did Mancini go through the stress of getting Savic when he already had someone who has played in England for years? Why not just give Boyata some more play time?

He did play well against Bayern Munich as a RB and Smalling is not all that better than him, he's prone to mistakes too and people still rate him highly. The end of the day is that a 21 year still has and needs much more time to grow into a world class defender. All world class defender start reaching their peak at 28-29. Huth was like 20 years old and people said he was world class. ...well where is him today ?

Thiago Silva was a HUGE FLOP before 2009. But today people rate him as the best CB in the world at 27.

The point is that every defender takes time to mould, a defender isn't an attacker who needs to run around and stuff. They need to build confidence, assurance, consistency and decision making.

CB: I'm not yet convinced of the need to bring in a world class CB. Kompany and Lescott were easily the best pairing in the premiership last season. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Kolo is good backup and should be retained as third choice until his contract expires end of next season. The obvious fourth choice of CB is Micah Richards, he showed he can still do a great job there when he had to last season. Savic, if not loaned out, retained for Carling Cup duties alongside Boyata.

Up front: We have four top strikers, so no change for me unless someone leaves.

Midfield: I'd bring in just one maybe two players in this department to add depth seeing as Hargreaves and Pizarro are gone. NDJ to be retained. A younger Pizarro type player would be good. And maybe a pacy attacking midfielder that can also operate wide as a winger (the plan b), though maybe Johnson could still fulfill that role if played down the left?

Seriously?

He obviously went through the "stress" because he sees the potential in him. He could have picked any young CB. He chose Savic. So until the time comes where we sell him then lets support him instead of slating him every time his name comes up.
