What does it take to be considered a real City fan?

If you don't go to games, I don't consider you a proper supporter.....simple really.

No excuse that you live in oz or USA, you can always make the odd game.

Do friendlies in the USA count? Poor student here who can barely afford rent let alone a flight ticket to the UK! :)

Yes they do. Don't play the poor student card tho, been there done that....got to games ;)

Doesn't bother me anymore. The whole 'who is a real fan' debate is one of the most boring in football, right up there with whose fans are the loudest.

Every City fan knows what level of dedication and passion they have for the club. Arguing about it is pointless.

Nothing wrong with being a part-timer, we can't all still live where we were born, it's the 21st Century, people move all over the world, and with the global brand most big teams are now pushing, the world just might get to see City on one of the pre season tours. If I still lived in the northwest I'd have a season ticket and be be going regularly, now I only get to the odd game at home and Wembley , so, yes, part-timer!

You have to wear a full kit to home games and been conceived during York away.

Typical city fans, well were all slightly different depending on age/generation,I'm 50 so city were the first thing I ever cared about, loved, they became my club and I have always felt part of the tribe, football is tribal you experience that on derby days growing up.
My dad and grandad, endoctrined me to be blue, for that I'm truly greatfull, highs and lows, ruined weekends galore, moods to match, but the same ride has brought out such hatred, bitterness, detest,of Man U,there fans and club.
Our new owners have made all our dreams come true, for all us blues who have been around for the barren years, the one thing we all have in common is our loyalty,to our club and each other which brings us together a bond which we pass on to our children.

It’s pretty common to see posters questioning whether someone is a real City fan or not, but it’s a pointless debate unless everyone has the same understanding of what being a real City fan actually means. Not that we’re ever likely to come to a consensus, but just out of interest to see the range of opinions, what’s your definition? (it's trickier than you might expect, when you try to spell it out)

For me, the simplest definition is someone who would want City to win in any game we could possibly play. You might like City a lot, but if you have stronger feelings for another team, then I don't think you can call yourself a real City fan (this seems a bit harsh if you follow City as well as, say, a lower division team, but I can't think of any way around it - if the two teams played and you didn't want City to win, it's hard to consider yourself a real City fan). I don’t think it matters where you were born, or how many games you’ve been to, how many generations of your family have supported them, or how long you’ve supported them. If City are your number one team now, you’re a real City fan in my opinion.

I only have one tattoo and its the City badge, so there's no question

The absolute minimum requirement for being a City fan is to make a new post on Bluemoon at least once per month trying to define who gets to be considered a City fan and who doesn't.

Seriously though, for me it's about conviction and lasting support. If you love the club, hurt when we lose and most importantly could never abandon City even if we go back to being the cup-for-cockups failures, you're a true fan IMO.
