What does it take to be considered a real City fan?

Interesting read. According to some, Sheikh Mansour would not even be considered a real City fan. Something just seems odd about that. ;)

Manchester post code. M18 me.

Ah the infamous Manchester post code beloved of Red academics everywhere and used in their studies
to falsely claim Manchester is Red. The Manchester post code covers the City of Manchester and large
parts of Greater Manchester to the west of the city (Salford, Trafford) but excludes most of the core
City areas on the east side (Stockport, Tameside). Thus "United play in Manchester" but "a significant
proportion of City fans have no connection with the city".

In answer to the OP a real City fan knows he or she is a real City fan in their heart.
We all have different reasons for supporting City whether they be family traditions, place of birth, or
just the fact that we favour City over all other teams and know that will be the case until death.
Trying to state criteria just creates divisions. I remember watching a history series about the Spartans.
Why did Sparta cease to be an important Greek city state? Simply because the rules of Spartan
citizenship were so exacting they basically ran out of Spartans!

Droylsden,Denton & Audenshaw have M postcodes.

I once towed a banner behind one of those paddle boats across Platt Fields Boating Lake with Swales Out on it. Ok it sank ,but the thought was there.

No media write ups ???????
Agenda ?

He's only ever been to one game. Saying that, it's that expensive these days I don't blame him!

Your defiantly born a blue especially if your born in the 80's and was old enough to know what the feck was going on in the 90's I mean why the fuck would you pick to support us in that era ?? I love city, a love that no non footballing fan (the missus) will ever understand and only fellow blues know that feeling of the really low times (that crushing feeling of going down) and the fucking highs of 99 and that moment when Sergio scored. It still brings me to tears watching them moments (get a grip man) ha

It’s pretty common to see posters questioning whether someone is a real City fan or not, but it’s a pointless debate unless everyone has the same understanding of what being a real City fan actually means. Not that we’re ever likely to come to a consensus, but just out of interest to see the range of opinions, what’s your definition? (it's trickier than you might expect, when you try to spell it out)

For me, the simplest definition is someone who would want City to win in any game we could possibly play. You might like City a lot, but if you have stronger feelings for another team, then I don't think you can call yourself a real City fan (this seems a bit harsh if you follow City as well as, say, a lower division team, but I can't think of any way around it - if the two teams played and you didn't want City to win, it's hard to consider yourself a real City fan). I don’t think it matters where you were born, or how many games you’ve been to, how many generations of your family have supported them, or how long you’ve supported them. If City are your number one team now, you’re a real City fan in my opinion.
Number one? Honestly, number fuckin one?
Forty two years and its never even crossed my mind to take in a two, three or four.

i love the way that when you meet someone new and you're introduced to each other as city fans you eye each other warily then you swop stories of your first match (league cup v QPR - 0-0), your lowest point as a city fan (cardiff away, fa cup in the pi$$ing down rain), the best player you've ever seen in a blue shirt (silva, bar none) and the last five minutes of 13.5.12 (every emotion i am capable of feeling) and then you're ok by each other for life.

With some 'fans' it is like who do I like best this year, Back Street Boys or Linkin Park - Pepsi or Coca Cola.

Of course they are not fans though.
