what "happened"?

just flicking through the MCFC v Walsall Saturday 26th February 2000 Division 1 Matchday Programme, tickets in the kippax for £15 and the days where we took 6,500 to Forest, 5,264 to Sheff Utd, 5,471 to Tranmere, 4,500 to WBA and Port Vale, 4,000 to Huddersfield and 3,500 to QPR, averaging 32,000 at home at Maine Road.

Why do we struggle with away's(bar OT) nowadays? I know it will fill up now we're at the top, but where did that hardcore support go? Are City fans just really not that well off that they can't afford it these days? Did a generation that were going back then grow up and move on or did they become too old to go? I can't see why they'd lose hope at that point, but they're massive away followings.

You can see from the parade that there are tonnes of City fans that don't come and sell out COMS in the past few years when it's not sold out, and that don't sell out some aways, so what happened? Is it really just a case of price and does it show how vitally important it is for people like Sheikh Mansour to invest in the city and to create jobs and facilities, both educational and recreational to help make the city prosper and make the people more well off? Or do we need to go and tackle FFPR head on and hope people like Sheikhy would fight for the fans and enforce price caps for tickets? Or did the lower league hardcore generation just dissappear?

could be a number of things, lower league clubs need more money therefore give more away tickets out, was cheaper back then, which prem club is gonna give 5000 plus tickets to away fans (imagine wigan giving this many there would be more away following than home following)look what it does to our home support when we have to do this in cup games.

Can't remember the last league away game that wasn't sold out.

plenty of them don't sell out quickly, which indicates that people who were going to the games mentioned above aren't still going, otherwise they'd have a lot more points than people who are getting tickets lower down the chain.

Barring QPR, all the games you've mentioned were relatively local. 10/15 years ago, practically anyone could get a ticket for games as there was no loyalty points system. Also, these lower league teams would offer allocations which you just don't get in the Prem.

However, the main factor in the "reduction" in away attendees is that the prices were 1/3 of what you'd pay nowadays. It's just as not as affordable as it used to be.

That was my first game JMW, seam to recall going behind to a Michael Rickets (!) goal and the Goat levelling up with a shot that went in off his arse. If anyone has a link to the footage I'd love to see it.

Few away games go on open sale these days
The reason they seem slow to sell out is because City go through each level of loyalty points bit by bit
In those days you knew you'd get a ticket easily so you booked your travel early and got cheap deals, unless you are top of the points pile that doesn't happen now

Price of ticket
Cost of travel
Reduced allocation
And you can watch it in your local and still have the majority of your £100.00 left at the end
