What has caused the current volatility in the world

It’s always been there and it’s always been acted upon frankly.

Rolling 24 hour news brings it to you personally these days and it’s impossible to get away from and discussion forums like this mean we eat, drink and sleep it.

Trump is a **** if the highest order but in 50,100,150 years from now the Yanks will still be the Yanks and Russia, North Korea, China and co will still be the mortal enemies.

Sort of agree but sort of disagree. Humans have evolved to become intelligent, resourceful, adaptable, and self-aware creatures. We have evolved out of all sorts of bad habits we used to have. War, fighting, and destruction used to be how we survived, but then we evolved beyond the need to fight to survive. We used to think gods in the sky determined everything, then we realised it was all explainable with science. Why can we not progress beyond war? 95-99% of the species have, but that remaining 1-5% continue to jump to it as a way of winning.
Well we’ve been going about 200,000-300,000 years and have certainly improved in a great deal of areas but war and killing still happens globally. I just think it’s ingrained in us. Maybe we will get beyond it, I just think it’s human nature.

We are an animal and we're nothing special. We jump to war because that's what we know to protect ourselves, it's hardwired into our brains.

The first great act of our species (Homo Sapiens) was the genocide of an entire other human species the Neanderthals. We didn't work with them, we had a better brain that could systematically kill them off for our own survival.

Imagine if aliens invaded but they didn't want to kill us and instead they just wanted to sleep in our house, eat our food and drink our water. What would we do? We'd shoot the buggers.

Would we? I wouldn't. The majority of people currently living on this planet have never fired a gun. I don't disagree that we have animalistic natures, but there's also a reason why they're referred to as "animalistic natures" as opposed to, well, human nature. We have evolved as a species beyond the need or instinct for war. Wars happen now because a select group of people, wedded to ancient ways of grabbing and maintaining power, want them to.

ok...what if it was let's say a Cockney Red?

If everybody could actually see ( not on tv or x ) but actually see what happens to the human body when struck by a metal projectile there would be no more wars

Right wing arseholes. Many supported by Russian and Israeli money.

These people are like cancer in a functioning liberal democracy. Politically they cause havoc. They do damage and the more government seems dysfunctional the more appealing extremists political views become.

Wouldn’t it just be wonderful if the world was controlled by commies

If it ever comes to fruition but free unlimited power would probably see an end to much of this, the money men would have no stranglehold over us, I do despair what will happen in the next 20 years because the last 20 have been a shit show. Greed and power is the main driver for all this.

1. Trump.

2. Billionaires and the influence they have and seem to be willing to use.

3. World leaders that know that they'll have no better opportunity than now to reap whatever havoc they desire with point 1 in charge of things.

It’s always been like this. Humans are naturally tribalistic and attack other tribes. It’s not more or less volatile than before. It was like this 500 years ago and it’ll be the same in 500 years. Scrapping over resources, paranoia about what others are doing, hatred due to religion/race/nationality, greed etc. are all still with us and always will be.

You’ll get people blaming “the right” or capitalism or Western culture on here but communist societies were just as violent, if not more so. It’s just human nature.

Homo Sapiens are the least aggressive of the great apes, but that doesn’t mean we’re not very aggressive when we feel threatened, especially in groups.
At a base genetic level, it doesn’t involve the brain as the brain came later than the genes and the brain cannot amend the genetic code. We are just another species in the long line of them who are predisposed to kill rivals and have our genes survive to pass on… and we will never change.

If you're an avid supporter of the far right or the far left you're the problem and will continue to be the problem. Binary choices are not choices they are decisions and the loud minority from both sides need to be ostracised by the majority.

In terms of the 21st century: 9/11, the 2008 bank crash, and social media. But also billionaires and world leaders who in their hearts know (but pretend they don't) that the world is environmentally doomed and will need to be left behind in the future, so they're hoarding as much land and wealth as they can in order to buy their children and grandchildren's tickets to Mars in the year 2090.

In terms of the 20th century events that set all this in place... fuck, where do you start? Bush stealing the election in 1999? Watergate? Putin bombing those flats? The total death of democratic social politics, replaced by neoliberal capitalist politics? Governments handing all money and power to the banks across the 80s and 90s? The long-enduring paranoia of the Cold War? World War II? World War I? The shooting of Franz Ferdinand? The list goes on.

It's always going to be hard and oversimplistic to try and narrow it down to one thing but the Western post-war baby boom definitely triggered a lot of things. A lot of the economic effects like the rise of neoliberalism, deregulation, wealth disparity can be traced back to it. Repealing Glass-Steagel -> 2008 -> Brexit.

And ironically the post ww2 lack of a baby boom really fucked the USSR and a lot of modern global conflicts can be traced back to that. You can definitely draw a straight line between the Soviet desperation -> Russian invasion of Afghanistan -> Gulf War -> rise of islamic terrorism and 9/11.

The problem is you just keep going backwards and never find a point to cut it off.
