Just look at my previous posts for why. I'm not writing an essay for someone who thought it worthwhile posting to tell us that the railways were private until they weren't.
I can always confuse a Tory by asking if they're happy that train drivers are paid so much because privatisation pushed up wages once different train companies had to compete for the same drivers.
It's sad but I miss the coloured piping on our jackets we used to get to show our grades.My grandad was proud that on the Great Central, they got paid more than on the Midland or L&Y. I think it was 6d a day or something like that. So this competition for labour is nothing new.
One consequence of nationalisation was that the grades were standardised across the piece, which was what unions wanted.
