What has the UK become?

Not demanding draconian immigration laws does not equal an open border policy.

No one even debates the 700k that the government wave through, just the 50k that come here on boats because the government don’t allow them to apply to come here until they actually get here.

All part of the lottery of which country you were born in.

There are only a tiny minority who advocate 'open borders', this fantasy enemy of the right-wing. We have not had open borders since the Aliens Act, 1905.

What we have is a government (and arguably previous governments) that are absolutely piss-poor at managing immigration, and are too weak/stupid/lazy to use the perfectly legal tools they have or which they could easily enact.

For example, we never enforced the rule that EU immigrants had to be self-supporting within three months as it was too much trouble and no one could be arsed. So much easier to blame the EU and so-called 'free movement'.

This government uses immigration as a lever to wind up certain people while at the same time issuing hundreds of thousands of visas for immigrants - presumably because the economy needs them. They do this because they are fucking hypocrites and love manipulating people's emotions for political gain.

There's also a lot of skilled refugees who come here who are desperate to work, but our system is designed to make it impossible for them to do so.

Is it?

There were an estimated 125 million passenger arrivals from outside the Common Travel Area (CTA) in the year ending June 2023 (including returning UK residents). This was almost twice (+79%) as many as in the year ending June 2022 (70 million), when UK and global travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic were still in place. The latest passenger arrivals number is over four-fifths (85%) of the total number of arrivals in 2019 (146 million), the period immediately before the COVID-19 outbreak.

There were 3,287,404 visas granted in the year ending June 2023, 58% higher than the year ending June 2022. This was primarily due to 889,821 (+96%) more grants of visitor visas, but also due to more grants for:

  • work visas (including dependants), up 208,295 (+63%) to 538,887
  • study visas (including dependants), up 165,968 (+34%) to 657,208, including sponsored and short-term students

This is nonsense.

For a start you are using passenger arrivals in the context of immigration. Why would you do that?

Refugees aren't granted work visas. If you are declared a refugee and get leave to remain you get unrestricted work rights.

If you are an asylum seeker, you can't work at all (except at the discretion of the Home office, the discretion is usually granted in cases where they want people in detention facilities to become cleaners).

Sorry mate but people who advocate that people can come here without using a passport and stay to work without putting a viable number up that is too many are open border advocates. It's disingenuous to say otherwise.

MG100 The Green Party wants to see a world without borders, until this happens the Green Party will implement a fair and humane system of managed immigration where people can move if they wish to do so. MG101 The Green Party believes that migration is not a criminal offence under any circumstances.

Don’t get upset by the official numbers just because they don’t suit the narrative, it’s not my fault.

The post said we have made it impossible to come work here.

I gave statistics that say that narrative is absolute bollocks.

538,887 work visas issued in 2023.

Sorry but why did you post this in reply to me? What has this got to do with refugees and asylum seekers not being allowed to work?

Which is nothing to do with refugees or asylum seekers.

Did you not realise that when one figure contains 125 million people it might have nothing to do with asylum seekers.

Probably because within that 125 million passengers is actually some individual people many times over.

It's a special kind of stupid.

1.6% of the electorate voted Green in 2019, probably mostly to accelerate our transition to 100% renewable energy, rather than what their immigration policy was.

My guess is that @hilts may well have voted Green, without advocating an open border policy.

Refugees are legally entitled to work.

Asylum seekers can apply to work if their application has taken over 12 months and their skill is one needed on the officials skills shortage list.

So skilled refugees which you claimed can’t work here fucking can, in any job they like!

Stupid is thinking what you’re saying is right, based on nothing more than your own desperation to create a false narrative.

No I didn't claim anything of the sort, I just said refugees have unrestricted employment rights.

There's something seriously wrong with your reading comprehension. I'm actually concerned that your stupidity is increasing exponentially now.

You're Desperate Dan in a John Bull costume.
