What was the terrace fashion on the Kippax in the 1980s?

The look was constantly evolving throughout the 80s. From the terrace sportswear classics like Tachinni tracksuits and Trainers at the beginning of the decade, through to the middle of the decade when there would be hundreds of lads near the away fans in the Platt Lane Stand, wearing perms, sloppy roundnexk j umpers with City pin badge and chords. As the decade progressed, things like Manchester Leathers, Bennetton tops and dungarees came and went. By the end of the decade the clothes went baggier and the hair longer and were more influenced by the local rave and music scene.

How soon did replica shirts become the norm for fans to wear? Always known it and been going since 1998.

Just a query for you reformed or still big kid Hoolies out there...

I can't understand why you'd purposely wear expensive clothing, to then go and kick the Crap out of each other?

Just doesn't make sense.
If I'm having a fight, it's baggy shorts and a rashguard (with a pair of steel toecap boots and a mouthguard haha)

Wouldn't want to get blood stains on a pair of Sambas that have just cost me £££.

I suppose watching footy was much cheaper in the 80's though.
Damn I missed out, I remember seeing fights at matches in the 80's but I was a little nipper then and couldn't enjoy the fun.

It was all about Identity, you could neigh on tell just by what someone was wearing who they supported

Yep. Dungarees were big in Manchester about 1985, around the time that frayed semi-flares came in first. They were often worn with those blue and white hooped Benetton rugby tops, sometimes with the arm straps hanging down at the sides.

The fashion changed almost week to week. Things were 'in', then they went 'out' just as quick. Manchester often did its own thing. You could usually tell where lads were from just by the clothes.

Got to agree about the identity thing, you'd walk down a high street in any city or town and you'd know who the manc's were based on their clothes - no need for scarves or replica shirts.
Anyone remember the Sabre crew neck jumpers they sold at Kendals? They had a tigers head logo sewn on but once they realised all the hools were wearing them they took the logo of an you got it separately to sew on yourself.

Those Tacchini trackie bottoms... dark blue with 2 horizontal white stripes that went round the back of the calf.

Thought they were so cool the first time I saw someone wearing them, eventually got myself a pair from the tiny little sport shop below the front of the concord suite in Droylsden.
