Thats harsh, his display in the European cup final vs Hamburg remains one of the best performances I have ever seen by a keeper. He'd be £40m in today's prices, going off the Buffon value of a few years ago.

Pat Bonner had a stormer vs England in the 1988 Euros. Didn't make him a brilliant goalkeeper though

I think Shilton was underrated by England fans, think he was a brilliant keeper, who went on a bit too long and everyone remembers him at the end (and those woeful penalty attempts in 1990) but 10 years previously he was one of the best in the world no doubt in my mind, its all opinions though.

I'm trying to think who the co commentator was for the WC Semi, but they said when the pens were just about to start "We couldn't wish for anyone better in goal for penalties than Peter Shilton. I can't ever remember him saving one though"
