Whatever happened to Niall Quinn?

Quinn was my absolute hero when I was a kid, he really fucks me off now. I think it's been discussed on here before, but did something happen behind the scenes before he left?

He played for us when we had our backs to the wall. Because he happened to be average in a well below average side, he gained the 'legend' status. The fact was however, that he wasn't a 'fan', he hadn't come through the ranks and he wasn't a 'career' City player. He behaves like a host of other pundits who have no affection for us, but we react badly to him because of his association with the club. We should remember him as a shite one dimensional player who adversely affected our style of play at our weakest moment. No more, no less. To me, he is no better (or worse) than, say, Michael Owen, for whom I also have no affection.
