The Bee symbol comes form the days of the Industrial Revolution and was meant to symbolise Manchester as a 'hive of activity'

This mosaic is in Manchester Town Hall and if you look around you'll find it all over the place in town.

That looks more like a wasp!

Now we are just getting picky !!

Could be in fancy dress.

The connections are obvious... says Garry Cooke as he models next season's away kit!

The bee is a common symbol around Manchester
Most road barriers are black with a gold bee engraved. It is a common symbol around the town hall, and above many doors of traditional buildings or work places. It symbolises hard work and dedication, and is derived from St Bede, a hard working intelectual who dedicated his life to education and teaching to others. There is a school named after him in Manchester, St Bede's College, which also has the symbol of the bee on the badge.
St Bede was burried in Durham Cathedral and his resting place can now be visited, a tomb in the cathedral itself.

i saw a massive etihad banner that was gold and black driving into london the other day
