What's worse, horrifying relegation battles or terrifying title chases?

There is certainly blind faith following football. Many a game when in a relegation scrap I had the feeling we can win this and rarely did.

Winning on last day and still going down is demoralising, like at Stoke.

Challenging at the top is different. Maybe because we have done so well.

Pretty much equal.

Only difference is you go into title run-ins with excitement whereas you go into relegation battles with dread.

I've never found relegation battles horrifying. They can be exciting, disappointing. numbing, inevitable, sometimes surprising - 1983 never felt like a relegation battle and maybe that was part of the problem. And afterwards - it always felt like a reset, and time for a change - and I usually believed we would be back up in a couple of years - so 96-98 was a bit of a shock - but ultimately inevitable.

Of course title challenges/promotion pushes are exciting - and there is almost more jeopardy, especially in recent years where even a draw can feel like losing ground. At some point we will lose one of these races and I hope we can take the disappointment and reset.

I still have trauma from the Radi Antic goal and relegation to Luton, competing for titles over the last decade has been an honour to watch, believe me the 80s and 90s were not a good time to be a blue.

Strangely enough, I found much of the 80s and 90s (probably 85 onwards) to be a 'fun' time to be a Blue attending away games.

Gallows humour aplenty, it was a period of great banter and many lasting friendships were forged in the face of adversity.

Home games were not so much 'fun'... more a case of going through the motions; doing something on a Saturday that we'd done for years. It was better than going shopping with the missus (but only just some weeks).

Obviously, it's more satisfying to win than lose. However, whether it's been a title season, promotion season, relegation season, a 'close thing' season, or an aimless drift in mid-table, I always enjoyed going to matches.

As I've got older, I must admit that I've found relegation battles to be more passionate than title battles. There's a greater feeling of unity between genuine fans, and a lot less 'glory hunting' or 'bandwagonning'.
