We did I’m sure. One of the first games of the next season we did it again.Beating Leeds by 4 in 91 when they were going for the title. Thought we’d handed it to the rags that day, I think we did it again to them the season after?
liverpool vs city 1981/82
the mighty liverpool was beaten at home by little old city
That Spurs game was fantastic. Was there with my old fella, loved Dobing, hence my username. This was first up for me when I saw this thread.. we were absolutely under the cosh all game but ran out 1-0 winners against one of the greatest sides ever.. one of the old guys who we used to see regularly on the Kippax at that time turned to us and said 'You know, if we lose to this lot it's a privilege to watch them'. And it was true, that team Dalglish assembled was a deadly, well-oiled unit..
But then I also thought of the '62 game versus Spurs at home when we battered the best team in England 6-2, with Peter Dobing scoring a hat-trick. However, that day I was transfixed by John White playing midfield for Spurs, a glorious player. And also, in the Autumn of that same year, the 3-2 win against the Red Filth at OT, when Alex Harley scored the winner at the death, with my Old Man saying to me 'Look at Bert!' as Trautmann did somersaults on the edge of the box to celebrate Harley's winner..

The Goats first city goal and even 2 for Bradbury!
I was at this game and as a youngster who had watched Liverpool hammer us every time they played us was unbelievable. I remember the 53 bus rocking on the way home.Beating Liverpool 1-0 at Maine Road on Boxing Day 1985. It was my first ever game. They battered us for 90 minutes but we nicked the points thanks to a Clive Wilson goal.
Yeh I think your right it was SWP’s debut. I remember the pub was at the bottom of the steepest hill ever, not an easy climb after about five pints! My ticket had RV scribbled in marker pen on it. Got into ground to find it meant ‘restricted view’. Sat legs akimbo behind a post leaning one side to the other to watch the game! How times have changed!Whilst we’re reminiscing.....
Any random matches you enjoyed when in the doldrums.
SWP’s debut (I think) away to Port Vale....circa 1999.
He came on as sub, shirt and shorts about 3 sizes too big!
‘Shauny WRIGHT WRIGHT WRIGHT!’ Rung out as soon as he came on.
I think he set up the first goal to go 1-0 up (I think the fans awarded him the goal by default).
Vale equalised then....
Danny Granville scored a cracking downward header rising like a salmon at the back post.
Great atmosphere and equally good pudding, chips and gravy on the way home.
