Where does Francis Lee rate?

And of course, it wasn’t just the Holy Trinity that were outstanding.

Doyle and Oakes were excellent half-backs. Book and Pardoe were brilliant full-backs. Nellie scored as many goals as anyone.

And as you said, Sir Joe and Big Mal were a world-class management team. Malcolm took training and Joe took care of the details. Also, they had a similar philosophy of how the game should be played.

Spot on

Great players need a team to play as a unit and all pull together and dig in, Without the workhorses of the team that work their balls off to make the likes of Lee Summerbee Bell shine and take the headlines they just would not be the same,

Sir Joe and Big Mal was also a major part in them coming to the club, Great scouting and many miles done going to watch them, Joe Mercer once said about Bell who was playing for Bury, Malcolm Allison what the hell are you talking about with this boy he can't play Hahahahah

This film about Lee from 1970 was posted on YouTube yesterday. It appears to show his every touch in a game against Spurs and in one for England, and gives a great sense of the type of player he was.

Apparently the film was made by the Canadian Air Force and narrated by Michael Parkinson.

Thanks for posting this video.
I posted earlier about the state of some of the pitches that Franny played on and that typified it.
