Where is the single most beautiful place you have been?

Struggling to decide, santorini or South Africa!

Not quite the same distance, is it!
Never been to S.A., although I've travelled widely in Africa. My son loved it.
Of the Kyklades, I didn't much like Santorini. Expensive. Full of people who had jetted in to have their wedding there. Tourists behaving rather like morons. The locals, unlike any of the other islands, were rather blasé and unfriendly. And volcanic beaches which, personally, I hate.
Of course, the caldera is something to behold. I stayed in a boutique hotel which wasn't, despite what I've just said, too ferociously expensive. Brilliant balcony looking straight out over the caldera, while sipping a glass of white. Spotlessly clean hotel. Nice people. Wish I could remember the name of it for you.
Many other beautiful islands to visit in that group. Also, by the way, it would be a shame to miss out on Athens entirely.

I agree with a lot of the sentiments regarding Santorini but I still though it was beautiful, I did enjoy Athens and also Many other Greek Islands.

Yosemite Valley. The sheer size of the cliffs are staggering. Would love to climb El Capitan one day.

Special mention to Milford Sound (and pretty much all of the NZ south island).

The various national parks in Montana, Wyoming and Utah are on the bucket list!

By the way: the most astounding B&B you will ever stay in. A converted trawler, with the back half chopped off, which was hauled up the hill and looks out over the valley. It's on the Isle of Lewis, on the Atlantic side. You sit in the wheelhouse and enjoy the view. Twin beds in the section behind it.
It's run by the Norgroves, who established the Linda Norgrove foundation after the death of their daughter, who was an NGO worker in Afghanistan. I spent a very moving evening talking to Mr Norgrove over a few glasses of wine, in their house.
Not a place, or a man, that I'm likely to forget.
For the hardy (which I wasn't, I like my creature comforts), there is also a stone bothy perched precariously on the cliff face, looking straight out over the Atlantic.

I found Santorini to be very reasonably priced and great value for money on the many trips I've had over the years.Of course if you are to stay in Fira or Oia with views over to the Caldera it becomes very expensive and the shops that cater for the rich yanks coming off the cruise ships are only to happy to cash in selling their overpriced crap! I've always stayed in Perissa and hired a vehicle to get about and find the restaurants to be very cheap and excellent value for money! Can't wait to get back there one day,god willing as its up there witht the most beautiful places I've been to
