What have I missed? There are posts about how we will look like amateurs and how so far this summer we appear to be like a dog chasing its tail. All this despite the fact the window isn't open for another 8 days!

Have to agree. When you have money like City, it's a two-way street.

We make numerous opening equiries, open-ended bids left on the table, all the time.

City also have every man and his dog punting players to us.

It could well be that the interest is registered to cover our other options.

There is absolutely no reason for anything but optimism at this stage. All I hear is Cahill has lost its early momentum.

There were plenty foaming at the mouth about his potential purchase.

I/We don't know what the other deal has been which has stalled.

For all we know, bigger and better might have come from on high. The meetings last week in Abu Dhabi were clearly integral to how we moved forward as one.

There is also the elephant in the room in Carlos, who despite our demands, his advisors are holding out hope to attract Real Madrid and others.

All a major bearing on spending and identifying of targets.

And such was the rare nature of our season (avoiding Champs League qualifiers on the final day, finishing in third)

The window was very small for Mancini and the guys to have clear definitive plans prior to flying out to Abu Dhabi just 48 hours later.

I've been told just now to relax and things will now move on at our pace. (clearly some clubs have been taking the piss on monies)

As long as they have a connection with Nike...................

But the fact is, Mancini and Marwood have both identified a series of targets, the block could have been put on any one of them.

Bolton are certainly confused why the early momentum has been lost.

Maybe cos the deal was gonna cost City somewhwere in the region of £20m. Are Bolton that stupid?

Tolmie, the run and run clue yesterday. Have you said who that player is, and if not is it one of the 2 i mentioned a couple of pages back?
As soon as i read it, i thought Bale.

Not Wilshere. But do keep an eye on Arsenal in terms of Fabregas and Nasri.

As for run and run, just a harmless turn of phrase you understand.

I don't know where we stand at present. You would be correct in what I have posted previous, meetings with both player and Udinese, firm money on the table.

Udinese came to Manchester last week...so I have to retain faith that everything is still favourable.

This would be a seriously big pisser for Mancini.

So if you don't know where we stand with Sanchez the 'along with another deal' must be someone else???

Possibly not.

The info didn't divulge a name, only another deal which had got bogged down.

As for Lee's question. It's widely-known that we have a strange way of recruiting players.

A sort of review panel which consists of more than just manager and chairman.

Marwood has a lot of say in identifying British-based potential talent. I think a fair example to suggest was the purchase of Adam Johnson, literally as Mancini had come through the door?

Things are stalling on Cahill, along with another deal, this was all set-up.

Told we have targets on hold in other areas, too.

Like I say, not sure if liked into Tevez, the meets last week in Abu Dhabi.

On the positive side, it may just be that Mancini has put the block on some.

He also told me that we are very much interested in Gary Cahill, and are trying to negotiate a deal with Bolton. Mancini knows he is in a strong position, something which wasn't the case just a few weeks back. He also knows there are clubs out there who would take him back to Italy tomorrow, and that he has only enhanced his rep.
That's a heady cocktail.
All managers only think about spending money, but I suspect we have to trust the owners. They spends their money, they take their entitlement to make the big decisions.
Mancini starts to bring the targets he wants, we'll hear no more of it.

Let me be clear, mate...we are talking about it as a possibility within 'this forum'.

There has been info flying around for a few weeks, that were not in the best interests of being posted, and same goes here.

If you want my personal opinion, for what it's worth, the owners are in a very difficult position at present.

I hope and trust common sense will prevail.

I thought we might end up in this situation with a 5th place finish and an FA Cup final loss. I thought with the way the season ended talk of managerial problems could be forgotten for this Summer. It is rather disappointing.

You talk of common sense prevailing, is Mancini going to have to back down for this to happen?

Would Richard Branson get rid of one of his pilots if a member of cabin crew didn't like the way he landed the plane?

The disastrous spending policy of Mark Hughes still lingers. We need to shift serious deadwood.

Aside from Cahill and Sanchez, and these are the only two which continue to be ongoing and very much alive, we need be more concerned with off the field matters.

Fact is, Abu Dhabi has left more questions than answers.

Mancini might be calling the shots, but he needs to know his place in the grander scheme of things.

I presume you mean we are no longer interested in Vertonghen? Kolo only misses the first month of the season, so with Cahill, Kolo and Boateng to back up Vinnie and Lescott, i really don't see why we'd need him anymore.
I suspect with the amount of proactiveness since Sunday with Bolton, the fact removing Nedum from the wage bill is also a major factor, getting Boyata playing time, Cahill would be a major shock to be dropped at this stage.
It's about more than bringing players in for us this summer.
Vertonghen is relatively cheap, so something which could be done at any time if the situation allows.

For the last couple of seasons we've been mainly chasing players not wanted by Barca, RM etc. This year it seems that all the top clubs are chasing the same small group of players. It seems that, despite CL qualification, we're still 2nd or 3rd choice for these players. We may have to wait for Barca etc to complete their major recruitment and see whats left.
