What have I missed? There are posts about how we will look like amateurs and how so far this summer we appear to be like a dog chasing its tail. All this despite the fact the window isn't open for another 8 days!

Have to agree. When you have money like City, it's a two-way street.

We make numerous opening equiries, open-ended bids left on the table, all the time.

City also have every man and his dog punting players to us.

It could well be that the interest is registered to cover our other options.

There is absolutely no reason for anything but optimism at this stage. All I hear is Cahill has lost its early momentum.

There were plenty foaming at the mouth about his potential purchase.

I/We don't know what the other deal has been which has stalled.

For all we know, bigger and better might have come from on high. The meetings last week in Abu Dhabi were clearly integral to how we moved forward as one.

There is also the elephant in the room in Carlos, who despite our demands, his advisors are holding out hope to attract Real Madrid and others.

All a major bearing on spending and identifying of targets.

And such was the rare nature of our season (avoiding Champs League qualifiers on the final day, finishing in third)

The window was very small for Mancini and the guys to have clear definitive plans prior to flying out to Abu Dhabi just 48 hours later.

I've been told just now to relax and things will now move on at our pace. (clearly some clubs have been taking the piss on monies)

My mate has befriended a member of our first team which is my source of information however i do know a few players in our squad such as Wabara, Cunningham and Nimley. I have never declared my itk status beofre as i'm not itk i am just relying information i have been told

As for our other targets, he said he hasn't heard much, but Mancini has identified what he wants to the owner.

tolm, why does this kind of thing have too happen not with what seems to be a power struggle? sounded alot like chelski and mourhino not like the thought of it at all. we do all the hard work champs league fa cup and now this, hopefuly mancini gets his will and is allowed too spend again if that is what he thinks, after all hes the one who has won many things and knows what it takes too compete at the highest level.

Mancini knows he is in a strong position, something which wasn't the case just a few weeks back. He also knows there are clubs out there who would take him back to Italy tomorrow, and that he has only enhanced his rep.
That's a heady cocktail.
All managers only think about spending money, but I suspect we have to trust the owners. They spends their money, they take their entitlement to make the big decisions.
Mancini starts to bring the targets he wants, we'll hear no more of it.

Personally I don't think just those two are enough. Central midfield is the position we need to strengthen more than any other.

It is not enough for Mancini.

He wants four or five. The meetings which have taken place this week have been traumatic for the club.

That is not tranfer forum hyperbole. Mancini is not for shifting on his workings for this summer and next season.

Can't mention The Journos name i'm affraid but he is adimant that City are willing to spend a huge sum on bringing Bale from Spurs.

I presume you mean we are no longer interested in Vertonghen? Kolo only misses the first month of the season, so with Cahill, Kolo and Boateng to back up Vinnie and Lescott, i really don't see why we'd need him anymore.

I suspect with the amount of proactiveness since Sunday with Bolton, the fact removing Nedum from the wage bill is also a major factor, getting Boyata playing time, Cahill would be a major shock to be dropped at this stage.
It's about more than bringing players in for us this summer.
Vertonghen is relatively cheap, so something which could be done at any time if the situation allows.
Things gone pretty quiet on Baines. Cartainly no urgency from our end at present.

For the last couple of seasons we've been mainly chasing players not wanted by Barca, RM etc. This year it seems that all the top clubs are chasing the same small group of players. It seems that, despite CL qualification, we're still 2nd or 3rd choice for these players. We may have to wait for Barca etc to complete their major recruitment and see whats left.
