For the last couple of seasons we've been mainly chasing players not wanted by Barca, RM etc. This year it seems that all the top clubs are chasing the same small group of players. It seems that, despite CL qualification, we're still 2nd or 3rd choice for these players. We may have to wait for Barca etc to complete their major recruitment and see whats left.

You can understand Barca and Real being ahead of us. Plus whilst manyooo have less funds to play with, they will always be able to use their history since 1993 to 'persuade' individuals.

If I was an upcoming star and Barca came knocking, I would gladly take less wages, just to be able to be a part of their current setup.

As you start to look at the top bracket players (of which there are very few!), not those up and coming ones, unless they are after one last pay packet (a la Eto'o), they will always plump for glory rather than riches. Hence the reason why we will find it nigh on impossible to lure Iniesta, Xavi, Ronaldo, etc.

That said, Schneijder could plump for us, manyooo or Inter. History aside, all three are probably at the same level going into the future.

Incorrect - for foreign nationals the tax system was altered a year or so ago. It went from 24% to 43%. Admittedly this is still lower than our 50% but its not as significant as it used to be.

I take your point, but I meant that wages become irrelevant to some extent, if you get the opportunity to play with the current Barca squad.
