Where were you on Sunday 30th May 1999 (Gillingham play off game?)

The Dragon in Whitefield.
I got married on the Friday (it didn't last) and one of my mates who was at the wedding and who hadn't been to city for as long as I've known him turns up Sunday morning and said he's off to Wembley with the Denton branch (could have been Droylsden).

Was well fucked off and was well shocked too.

Anyway i had a mad afternoon in the dragon, there was a few gobby rags in who soon disappeared after the pens, speaking of which I remember being outside in the garden when Edghill was taking his.

Finished the night in moon under the water on Deansgate till late.
 
I was absolutely steaming at Wembley and went through every emotion going. From the pits of despair to heavenly relation!! One of the maddest days of supporting City and it took a week for my voice to come back!!
 
Wembley. The Friday before, I'd been invited to watch the lads training at Maine Road.
My neighbour who'd been diagnosed with terminal cancer had asked me to take him down to Platt Lane to see them training one last time. Sadly they were doing it at Maine Road before the play-off final. My wife spoke to Bernard Halford who only lived around the corner. He arranged for us to go down and meet up with Joe Royle and the players and watch them train. John Wardle put us in the directors box. I used a few rolls of film taking players photographs. My neighbour was so chuffed, especially when Bernard gave us a couple of complimentary tickets to the final.
Like Cheesey said, It's great being a blue.
 
At Wembley but leaving at 2 down. Halfway down Wembley way and we asked a copper if it was still 2-0, he said it's 2-2 cue bedlam and running back to the stadium, we got let back in for extra time ,pens. What a day!

That said.
We were only formed in 2008 to some weren’t we???
 
Flew in overnight. Didn’t sleep on flight. Went to my hotel in Lancaster Gate. Couldn’t sleep. Went to Wembley to meet my brother. Hooked up. Was absolutely knackered and emotionally drained at 2-0. Looked at my brother and raised my eyebrows. He shook his head. We scored. We won. We went crazy like everyone else. Went back to my hotel. Showered, went to a boozer, sat outside enjoying a few with a few City fans walking by having a chat. Slept like the dead, Flew home in the morning.

Whirlwind day with a brilliant result, unlike my similar jaunt to the 1-0 Madrid CL SF loss!

Being a Blue means enjoying the ride, and what a ride it has been since the late 60s for me!
