Where will Hughes go ??

Just listened to 5 live prattling on about the Villa job. Pat Murphy struggling to conceal his bitterness towards Lerner (who doesn't give interviews). It seems Villa are playing games with him, there are all sorts of rumours being fed to the press which turn out to be bollocks. So Pat is laying into Lerner at every opportunity, and this is a great opportunity to say he doesn't know what he's doing (ironic, given that Pat's just admitted he doesn't know what Randy's doing). But at the same time Pat has to kiss McLeish's arse, so he rabidly denies that him quitting was the moral equivalent of a club sacking their manager.. apparently Birmingham were trying to get him sacked anyway (no evidence required to make this allegation, apparently).

Anyway, amidst all the laughable hypocrisy, one moment stood out. Keown said, well, hang on, maybe Lerner is playing a bigger game here, I wouldn't rule out Mark Hughes. He didn't even finish his sentence before Pat came in straight over him; 'No, I understand that's a non-starter'. Well Pat you've already admitted that you were fed incorrect information about McLaren, so why so vehement now? Villa don't trust Hughes but are sympathetic to McLeish, because their situations were entirely different? Interesting line to peddle.

But Keown wasn't done, said, he would be astonished by if Hughes wasn't under consideration. And now Pleat interrupts him, some bollocks about Mark Hughes being very settled in London. Maybe it's true, but the way they both piled in so quickly, I had the definite impression they had something to hide. It didn't help that McGarry was coughing nervously in the background.

I'm piling more on Hughes as we speak.

Hah, I've been wrong before. I've been playing this market quite heavily and I usually don't get involved at all. I made some money backing a couple of outsiders at over 50s before laying them for <10, I've probably got carried away on that. Hughes' odds just seem to constantly go out, then come back in again. Every time the market thinks we're arriving the end game we start over again with Hughes as the favourite.. I'm betting there's at least one more twist in this tale.

He's the new Harry Redknapp, in 20 years people will still be bigging up Hughes, he'll still have won fuck all, he'll never be to blame for any of his fuck up's and the odd 4-3 win in his favour will be cited as 'proof' of his exciting and dynamic managerial genius.
