Not impossible though...I think Lemmy used to hammer them out...Ha ha ha! True!
After Perry though Journey with Steve Augeri and Jeff Scott Soto were far better than Pineda. Live anyway they both brought a personality to the band. Pineda brings not much at all.Journey - another band with multiple ins and outs..
Close call but I don't think Arnel Pineda could quite match Steve Perry; but I wouldn't say the band was that much worse for it.
A few polls put Perry among the top dozen all-time lead rock singers.
Saw them at Manchester uni, they were very good, Stan Webb I believe was the guitarist, I remember he had the longest guitar lead I've ever seen. She was a member of Chicken Shack for a while. A good blues band.
Chicken Shack and Fleetwood M were both on Blue Horizon label and shared bookings regularly, esp on the college circuit. That’s how Christine P and McVie met. After they married CP left to become a housewife! She became a session player for FM 1 on keyboards and eventually joined full time. Her writing flourished with FM 2.Saw them at Manchester uni, they were very good, Stan Webb I believe was the guitarist, I remember he had the longest guitar lead I've ever seen.
We areAre we talking Paul Di'Anno re: Iron Maiden?
I saw them at the Apollo on that tour in 1980. I thought the opening to that concert with all the pyrotechniques and into Eyes Of The World was one of the best openings to a gig I'd ever seen. Loves No Friend was another great track and the Lost In Holywood live that incorporated the guitar solo, drum solo and keyboard solo by Don Airey was brilliant.Down to Earth is a great rock album, shouldn't be judged on Since you've been gone, and All night long. The rest of the album is brilliant rock.
The Stranglers should've packed it in when Dave Greenfield died. I used to love them but they're just a tribute band now. When Paul Roberts replaced Hugh Cornwell in the Stranglers I lost interest in them. I had every album to Dreamtime and when he left I haven't heard a Stranglers album fronted By Roberts or Baz Warne since, I've gad no interest in the band post Cornwell.
I don't think a band can lose such an influential front an as Cornwell although Warne was decent tbf.
That said when Pink Floyd replaced Syd Barrett with Dave Gilmour they became huge worldwide. Although I'm quite familiar with Floyd's early stuff with Barrett I'm a lot more familiar with Gilmour in the band and he's right up there with all time best lead guitarists. Floyd were never the same though when Rogers Waters left in 85 after arguing with the band about him being too influential in their sound and lyrics after he wrote composed and sang all the song lyrics of the Final Cut album in 83.
Probably already been mentioned in the thread, but Dr Feelgood never feltgood after Wilko Johnson left.
I had that honour. P1.Probably already been mentioned in the thread, but Dr Feelgood were never the same after Wilko Johnson left.

(Althouugh their biggest hit ' Milk & Alcohol; came with Gypie Mayo, and they were still pretty good!
not sure he ever had it cleaned, esp the cream one. Man who could blow his cig smoke right thru his harmonica. Respect.Worth watching just for Lee Brilleaux. He was an excellent front man. I don't think I've ever seen anyone sweat as much as Lee. His dry cleaning bill for his suit must have been massive.

I'd agree that Marillion without Fish are a few levels below where they were but the same can be said for Fish without them. Just makes me sad because I play the first 3 albums (4th one occasionally) and the early live stuff over and over but just don't rate the rest anywhere near those three. There's bits of stuff that's okay but ... oh well.Fish = Marillion Mk1 = Fish.
Marillion - Fish = Something else.
Fish was absolutely pivotal to everything Marillion were at the time.
Another band who changed into a dad-rock tribute band once the lead member left.
Brave is the only album I've managed to enjoy after Fish left.I'd agree that Marillion without Fish are a few levels below where they were but the same can be said for Fish without them. Bon Scott was a replacement himself, like most bands they are not known until a few original members have left.I was kind of okay with Johnson after Bon Scott died and they did some pretty good records too, including BiB. Agree I prefer earlier AC/DC though.
