The dad of a school friend of mine ran the Bowling Green in the 60s. I never went in there before I was 18, as he knew our ages! The lad was a rag, as were his mates, and went in the Stretford End. Haven't seen him since 1968.
As for the topic, I've had several pints with Mike Doyle in the Fletchers in Denton. He was born (and died) in Ashton, and also had a pint with Ken Barnes and his young son, destined to become a great player, Peter.
