What's single malt whisky like from the isle of Islay like ? Has anyone tried it ? I'm also not a 'whisky-head' but i feel like i should buy a bottle of whisky for if any visitors ask for a wee dram ?

If its Islay malt you are looking for, I'll keep it main stream as well - so available at supermarkets

Cao ila, Bowmore and Ardbeg are slightly lighter but very nice

Bruichladdich, Lagavulin and Laphroaig are more peaty and have a stronger flavour

The Laphroaig is the strongest peaty flavour and one of my favourites
I would recommend the normal 10 year old over the cask strength the cask is very powerful, tastes and smells like hospital - which is where you'll ed up if you drink too much it's > 50%
The quater cask is nice also

I would recommend the Cao ila or the Bruichladdich if you are not looking for an operpowering taste

If it doesn't have to be Islay then I would also suggest Talisker (£22 Asda), Highland Park or Dalwhinnie

best drunk with melted ice cube water

You cant beat Bushmills or my own favourite Black Bush

My favourite blended is Johnnie Walker Black Label. It's a bit pricey but well worth the money, but Jamesons is good stuff.
As for single malts, I reckon one of the most common ones Glenmorangie is top quality.

Oooh, you've just reminded me I've got an unopened bottle of Black Label in the cupboard!

Go and have a large one.
I've not got any in, I might get a bottle of it tommorow as a christmas present to me. :-)

Connemara for Islay whisky.

Jamesons is a fine choice though.

Whiskey with an 'e' is from Ireland.

Whisky without the 'e' is from Scotland.

I prefer the islay single malts with Laphroaig being my favourite.But i'll try anything...

Cheers for that Dave , if in doubt about Whisky - ask a Scotsman ;-) . So you advise me to buy a bottle of Bells ( on your recommendation ) ;-)

Think i might try the Talisker ? ( only because it's the name of one of the only two pubs in my relative's village in Lanarkshire ) .
Like i said , not really a Whisky drinker , more of a JD or Brandy drinker .

I very rarely drink spirits but now it's coming up to Christmas, I have bought a bottle of 12 year old Jameson and a bottle of Glenlivet 12 year old malt.

Have I made a good choice?

The Jameson's is a fine choice, lovely smooth whiskey

If it's Irish whiskey you are after can't go too far wrong with Jameson

Is usually fairly reasonable priced also

Best drunk straight or with ice - dont use a mixer
