Not a chance. Suggesting we need a left back is very much an oppositions fans outside looking in kind of view.

We currently have 4 players whose best chance of getting into the side is at left back in zinchenko mendy cancelo and ake. We also have laporte who has played there. There's not a position on the pitch we are more stacked in than left back.

None of them bar mendy may traditional left backs but it's clearly how Pep wants his side. He sacrifices having a specialist in that one position where we suffer the least from it to accommodate the versatile players and keep them all happy. you simply can't do that if you have specialists in every position. We sign a left back, we make 4 players unhappy and can't replace them with the same quality and therefore end up with an inferior squad. We sold a very good club trained left back last year because we didn't need one, we won't be buying another.

How is Mendy blocking squad improvement, he is backup LB. What more do you want?

Bernardo at his best, not seen for a while, was at least as good as anything Grealish has produced for Villa or England.
Mendy is a back up LB to make shift LB's and as such is blocking squad development. He would be gone only for no body in their right mind would pay him what we do.

The more I think of Jesus the more I like the idea of him going out on loan. No option to purchase, just loan him for a year to juve or whoever for a fee. With him playing week in week out we will have a lot of questions answered and we can decide what to do next summer. This isn’t really the year for selling players with covid so unless someone is willing to give us 80-100m then a loan is the way forward..for me anyway
