Who’s gone in the summer?

A very different squad if we lose Bernardo, Jesus and potentially Laporte while bringing in Grealish and Kane.

Far more English-centric, than the usual Spanish-centric (language) team.

While sad to lose players, since we are bringing in quality, I just view it as a different period for us.

Slightly odd comment, given that none of Bernardo, Jesus or Laporte speak Spanish as a first language

Could be that the management recognise that English players are less likely to get the hump and ask for a move if they’re not getting game time, and they’re much less likely to get homesick training and playing in the rain eight days a week. Of course they’ll get upset, but they’ll also know it’s a downward trajectory going elsewhere.

For players such as Bernardo, Laporte, and Torres, being closer to home and family this summer, especially on the back of lockdown, must have appealed, so I can understand if they wish to move. I’d be sad to see Jesus go, though, as I think he has the right work ethic, and if given a full season as the number one striker, he could get more goals.

If this new direction is the case, then we’re twice blessed. We have a good crop of youngsters coming through our own academy and England is producing a generation of great talents. Might need to try identifying them earlier, though, as the prices will only go up.

Judging by the signings across the league, looks like there will be Brexit squad regulations with an increased amount of HG players and fewer foreign spots.

Problem they have is that there’s no one out there who can afford to buy them. Problem we have, if we cannot find buyers, is whether we can keep a couple of them happy enough for another season and at the same time not stymie the development of some younger players.

I fail to believe that we have gone for Grealish and Kane without first sounding them out, so it would be naive to think that a handful of our own players haven’t been sounded out, too.
