Who and what’s to blame?

Not so much has gone wrong.

Small drop off in intensity, Vin gone, Laporte’s injury, Sergio a yard slower

The bullshit media storm around the Bernardo / Mendy tweet also robbed last season’s best player of his mojo for several months.

We’ll be back, we’re built to last.

The drop off has been pretty alarming and 8 defeats already in the league is piss poor. In the case of Bernardo he’s now had 1 good season out of 3.

There's a valid argument about the squad struggling to go again. But this argument again simply shows the fault of the hierarchy. After winning back to back, its the time to refresh and shake things up. Did we do that? No.

agreed, we never strengthened after winning our previous titles, big mistake

1st season he gets a pass
2nd season - come on pal he wasn’t just good he was absolutely outstanding
3rd season - he hasn’t hit the heights but since he got over the Mendy affair he’s been decent

Too right.

There really are some unrealistic folk on here. The aggressive tone and bile is unwarranted & unworthy.

It’s just bizarre. We’ve had it so good and people are looking for any reason to complain. Yes we didn’t win the league, but It’s just not realistic to expect us to win it that many times.

Just really spoilt and arrogant views in my view

I can’t really remember when the news of that broke but we were at a noticeably lower level than last season very early on this season.

It was confirmed on Valentine’s Day but we’ve had this hanging over us as club since March 2019. Any way to attack City as a club they will use it, we get exonerated we will still be seen as cheats whilst the media says nothing about a club who hacks other teams data bases.

It would be a fantastic season and nobody thinks we should be winning it every year but the Prem is the bread and butter. However you look at it, we have fallen way short and questions have to be asked. How you perform in the league is a much greater barometer of where you are as a team. Teams fluke cups, the CL winner, is rarely the best team in Europe but being the best side in your domestic competition says everything and we are miles behind. Suggesting nothing is wrong is the complacency I was referring to.

we are second. Other then winning it agin there isn’t much more we could do. I’m not suggesting nothing is wrong, just that some expectations are unrealistic - winning it every year, which plenty seem to think.

We've already won the Charity shield and League cup. If we go on and win the FA cup and Champions league this would our greatest season ever. A bit early for the inquest?

Agree with your sentiment. That said it didn’t affect us too badly from March - May 2019 :-)

After watching the rerun of the Blackburn promotion game the other night, it offers a sense of perspective.

Twenty Years and Eleven trophies later, we've already retained the League Cup, and are probably going to finish 2nd in the Premier League. We've also got a decent chance of retaining the FA Cup, and regardless of how we fare in the Champions League, we've recently beaten Real Madrid (who actually won the competition in 1999-2000) in their own stadium.

What went wrong, and who's to blame?
We got spoilt!
Spot on. Didn't think it would take long after last night for the pitch forks to be out. Typical BM response to losing I guess, but as others have said, we have no divine right to win it every season
