Who and what’s to blame?

agree

out the door:

Mendy
Otto
Gunodgan
Zincenko (feel sorry for him as he is a very good player being played way out of position)

In

A replacement or two for Vinnie
A quick wide forward - we need variation to our play.
A left back who can actually fucking defend

then we can concentrate on the biggest of them all next season- a replacement for Kun
You name four players you'd sell but no names of whom you'd buy....easy isn't it !!

Laportes injury did it for me. It meant Fernandinho having to play in defence meaning we lost our best defender and one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. It screwed everything else up and left us with a weak spine.

Reading through these posts it seems almost all of us agree on why and what we need, but most importantly will the board also see and address the most glaring issues?

When we win the legal case, there can be no more 'make do and mend' when improving the squad. No more Angelinos and square pegs in round holes, or eking out another season from players no longer good enough. The cheque book has to come out, really fucking big time. I for one do not want to see a scouser or a rag lift the title again for a very long time. We might not be in this financial position forever so we must use it to our advantage now.

Look at the games we lost, most of them we dominated but were hit on the break because we now lack pace in midfield and at the back. Some teams have sussed us out this season to an extent. Same pattern.
We’ve been pap at the back, losing bad goals all season.
Compare the defence this season with how we finished last season with so many narrow wins & defending well, quite a few clean sheets.
All started to go wrong when we lost Laporte and Fern was moved back. He’s no central defender despite Pep’s protestations.
Key players from last season were not as good eg Sterling and B Silva.
Not convinced Ederson is a great GK, I’d swop him for Liverpool’s keeper.
Rhodri yet to convince, strong but looks a bit cumbersome and slow at times.
Daft signing of Cancelo, a position we didn’t need to strengthen.
Combination of factors then.
Still much to play for and a great chance of winning the FA Cup, imagine that happening 20 years ago.

We've won 8 from the last 10 available trophies
Do people think we can every trophy forever?
It's not sustainable, we've had a good run but its someone else's turn now.
However I expect us to win it back next season

We play a high line with slow as fuck defenders. It’s like villas boas spurs team defensively.

also playing Rodri and gundogan blunts the attack.

VAR mentally did for many in my opinion as it did for us as fans watching it week in, week out.

Yes they have been more consistent but they are no way over 20 points better than us as a side and even Klopp admitted as much.

I have no problem being beaten to the title fairly but when its been handed on a plate it grates a little.
The Spurs game officially sealed it, after the debacle at West Ham with Sterling's onside/offside bullshit decisions. We were masters at keeping patient and finding last minute winners in both title winning seasons, the decision to award handball when the footage was so inconclusive on Laporte was staggering. It was obvious the previous 4-5 years what was happening with double standards when it came to officiating our games, VAR just confirmed it. The additional way of manipulating results definitely impacted our confidence and belief in finding late winners, we as fans knew full well if we scored, VAR would try to find the smallest possible inconclusive shred of nothing to disallow it, the players and Pep must have known it too.
