Who is our best centre back? last 30 years

Watched both Mike Doyle and Dave Watson during the 70's, both where hard men, with Mike just shading it........took no prisoners I tell you...........

Curle was great but I resented paying 2.5M for him when 3.6 got you Shearer.

Micah had a very good season partnering Dunne at CB after dustbin left (although maybe that just reinforces how adaptable Dunne was)

Lake had a couple of outstanding games at CB before his injury - could have been an England fixture in that position although I thought he should have been in midfield.

Best though is Vinnie when on form. Most important in terms of effect on the club was Andy Morrison imo.

1 dave watson
2 vinny
3 mike doyle
4 van buyton
5 tommy booth
6 andy morrison
sorry if theyre not all in 30 year period

Last 30 years = Vinny
Ever = Watson

Wow - was looking at a Watson clip and got this after it:-

Think Kompany is the man, although a shout out to Richard Dunne as player of the year several years running and keeping things relatively stable during some interesting squads (despite his propensity for the OG).

Somebody will be on here shortly to say how shit Richard Dunne was, but the man will for ever remain a legend in my eyes. PotY four years in a row tells you what most City supporters think of him.

In the last 30 years, he has to be one of the best we've had, along with Keith Curle, Sylvain Distin, Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott.

Gerard Wiekens, Colin Hendry and Andy Morrison also deserve a mention.

Edit.

I forgot to add that, in my opinion, the '70s trio of Booth, Doyle and Watson are our best three ever.

Indeed, Big Dave Watson remains one of my all-time favourite players.

A colossus of a man and as hard as hell. Remember him having a wound on his head stitched without anaesthetic after the 1976 League Cup final?

Loved van Buyten. To think we couldn't afford him at £2m or whatever it was. Only had him for a short time but still the best, I reckon. Very similar player to what Demichelis was at his peak.

Vinny is great but he does have a bit of recklessness about him. Van Buyten never lost his head.
