Loved van Buyten. To think we couldn't afford him at £2m or whatever it was. Only had him for a short time but still the best, I reckon. Very similar player to what Demichelis was at his peak.

Vinny is great but he does have a bit of recklessness about him. Van Buyten never lost his head.

We couldn't afford DvB because KK wasted £6 million on Blobby Fowlup. IIRC. it would have been about £2 million to sign van Buyten.

Mike Doyle

Although Mike did play central defence in some games he was more of a right wing half, in that great Mercer team George Heslop was more of the central defender than Doyle, Heslop was tidy as well!
