Who misses the football special?

Leeds away think it was 74 75 piled off singing Manchester la la la, Leeds waiting but fucked off seeing number of boys we had. 2 2 draw we got a very late equaliser can't remember who scored. We had been losing twice felt like a win. That was interesting walk back to the station.

Was that the game where they opened the new stand behind the goals.

Gates locked 30 minutes afore ko, rammed with City fans.

We went on their Kop and got some very funny looks when Willie Donachie scored early on but no aggro !!

Yep, had to go in the Lowfields Rd terrace.

Throwing bottles at passengers going through Rugby. On the way back someone lobbed a fire extinguisher through a shelter at Chesterfield. One bounce to hit the target. A good job there was no one in it.
It was usually the train spotters at Crewe that copped for all the cans and other items thrown their way!
I recall one night game (may have been Wolves in the League Cup 87) and the carriage I was in, anything not nailed down and that could fit through the little square window (including light bulbs) went out as we went over Stockport viaduct / M63 (as it was back then)
We pulled into Piccadilly in darkness....

travelled by car quite a lot late 70s early very early 80s, we would get in the away end very early. You always knew when the specials had arrived, the end was flooded by city fans piling in. 15 mins before KO songs where belted out. Now on KO a large percentage of fans are still on the concourse at away games.

maybe no more "football specials" but we do have "special football"

I’ve read a lot about these over the years. What a buzz it must have been on them.

I remember an Everton special pulling into Crewe on a opposite platform, a little firm of them came over the bridge to our special trains platform so I went to the end of the train as we were slowly pulling away with a full can and launched it a the kid at the front of them from the train door window smashing him full in the face. I walked back up the train to my pals feeling ten foot tall, probably the highlight of my life
