Who now then?...

The only thing I would add is what I've stated for sometime now. Fred and jorghinio are not like for like replacements for fern. Yes they can keep that ball moving, launch attacks from deep etc etc etc. But I've not seen anything from either of them to suggest they have ferns engine or mobility. I can only assume they were pursued to play alongside fern, not instead of. If not the type of player City seem to be pursuing to sit in that dm role worries me, if we're agreed that ferns qualities were instrumental in reaching are record breaking points total last year.

Im not sure theres room next to Dino if im honest, I wouldn't want to drop either Dave or Kev. I can only ever see us playing a double pivot in the later stages of the champions league away from home or when trying to shut a game down. My guess would have been that the transfer (who ever it was) would be to ease the burden on Dino and be ready to take over full time in the near future

Incredibe how we all wanted - even Txiki wanted or presumably we wouldn't have been in negotiations - then we don't get and anybody suggesting we are short in certain areas is ridiculed as needy or spoilt.

It’s clear to see we’re short in that area- it’s not needy, it’s fact... hence bids for Fred and Jorginho....

What about Dembele as a cheaper option? Out of contract with Spurs next season.

Funny you said that because I'm starting to think that we're unlikely to see a fern type dm at the club under Pep. Pep has said all the right things about Fern over the last 2 years. However, he has not once pursued a player remotely similar to Fern. Fred, jorghino, pjanic,Thiago, these are the type of midfielders we've been linked with to slot into Ferns role. All good players but have more of an emphasis on an offensive game compared to ferns role in the team. I can see where pep is going with it in how he wants the team to evolve. My only concern is whether City will be as effective in the short and long term in the absence of ferns all round quailties

Presumably Gundogan will feature a lot in a number six role. But once again, we could be playing with fire against teams who can be devastating on the counter attack.
