Who now then?...

Gundogan can fill in at DM if need be. Xabi used to do it for Pep and Gundo is no less mobile and no worse at tackling. Xabi has done some absolute hatchet jobs over the years, being a top quality tackler is not the highest priority for a pep number 6.

That being said, I would like to see us sign another midfielder, whether it be a long term option like Wiegl/Kovacic or a shorter-term elite player like Rakitic or Vidal to help us make a tilt at the champs league while also retaining the league.
We've just signed Claudio Gomes for the EDS, turning 18 in 2 weeks. The upcoming preseason games will give an idea if he's ready to be a rotational option, like Foden.

Rumours are that Pogba isn't happy at United and Mino is shopping him around again (Barca). I actually wouldn't mind him here, there is a player in there.

Flipity flip flop flapity....
So City should appear desperate to the rest of the football world and declare a deal that was never declared is dead.... City should then say we are desperate to sign a DM ( or just perhaps look disentrested/ not fussed unless a target becomes avaiable). Some folks need to take a breath. We have cover if needed. As City said, we will only sign players that imorove us. No more Rodwells, Sinclairs etc.
Also, Perhaps ffp is a bigger squeeze than we realise. We did spend mega big last year after all.

This. And I’ve said on a previous post that it seems we are operating to a strict budget. This doesn’t mean we don’t have more to spend - we clearly do and have ‘saved’ the Jorginho fee - but I do think we’re having to be careful. Perhaps we are keeping our powder dry in case ‘a big opportunity signing’ comes our way in which case the club would seek to finance it by some means.

It’s not about being desperate it’s about continuing to build . Last two times we won the league we didn’t strengthen because we thought we could carry on and we got well and truly rinsed. So this is why it’s so important that we bring a n this top level midfielder . Also we need to get better in the ch league which we failed last year. Not being funny but is £60 mill in this day and age in football and also for a team bankrolled by a country

A bit of a raggish statement and not remotely accurate....

Won the league in 2011/12 then signed - Javi Garcia, Matija Nastasic, Jack Rodwell, Scott Sinclair and Maicon.

Bloody awful transfer window, so it may be better to sign nobody than a load of dross.

So we didn’t get rinsed the seasons after the win and we also didn’t fail in the champs league ?and whether we like to think it or not we are bankrolled by a country . I’m sorry but I have no qualms about us spending money if we’re gonna dominate the league and champs league . Do you honestly think we are gonna win the league by a massive points lead again because we’re not and it’s going to go all the way this time and maybe just maybe bringing in a top class midfielder could be the difference

And I mean another top class defensive midfielder

We pay our own way now and have to comply with FFP regs. No input from Abu Dhabi ( not a country last time I looked - only rags use this as fake information... you must be thinking of PSG).

That has always been the problem when we have missed targets: signing lesser players because the money is there rather than saving it for players we actually want. Then there is not enough money when someone does come on the market.

Pep hasn't done that so far & hopefully will continue that way & only sign a player on his 'A' list rather than waste it.

Didn’t say Abu Dhabi. Emirates is the country. PSG is quatar based. But we have used Emirates money to higher out profile in the beginning if I’m not mistaken . End of the day we all diff opinions on how we want our team to to progress but we all want the same goal

We had investment from Sheikh Mansour. Which he no longer needs to do.

Wanted Jorginho, but even if we go with what we have got City will still be strong and compete without a doubt.
