Who now then?...

kovacic would be a good alternative.

confusion here seems to be on his release clause

Who now then? M.E.N reporting.....no-one!

"The club have no intention, at the moment, of finding another midfielder, despite being heavily linked with Real Madrid star Mateo Kovacic.

Guardiola is said to be happy with his squad and the club have pointed to his track record of switching players from other positions - which means Fabian Delph, Ilkay Gundogan and Danilo are on the frame to be
understudies to Fernandinho"

Not sure if there's a like for like alternative. Like others mentioned Maybe Weigl? But his form last season has fallen off a cliff. Worrisome.

He would be a different alternative to jorghino though. and I believe real Madrid wants to keep him

agreed .... tbf ferna played a box to box at shaktar , but was forced / changed to DM partly due to yaya and has done a great job.

him being 24 and working under Pep hopefully will work wonders IF we get him

This “we must strengthen” after a title win mantra, because we’ve never retained a title before, is hopelessly simplistic. Why would what happened in 2012 have any bearing on the dynamics of this (record breaking) squad?

Just because your first two wives shag your best mate, it doesn’t automatically follow that your third one will.

Kinda agrees with what Sam Lee said.

Strange we are not looking at another DM when this transfer fell through.

On second thoughts, pep probably got it right about no bothering to buy other player. Maybe he felt jorghino was unique and would have improved the squad. Just panick buying to replace him when he for some reason opted to go to Chelsea would just be wasting money and a squad position.

That's true. Maybe pep can change his role to fit us. Still I feel it will be too hard to prise him away from real. Unless the new coach told him directly hd won't play much this season again. Then he might look at other options.

well Jorginho is officially done to chelsea,.... hope we have something planned ... trust Txiki and Pep

Oh my mistake Is he a defensive midfielder? No! But hey lets sign another attacker to go with Kun,GJ,Sterling,Sane,Bernardo.. we only have one defensive midfielder and hes getting very tired
It's all fine though, with the team we have the opposition will only have the ball for about 20% of the match. We'll be fine, time for a young player to step up perhaps?

But not as thin as last season, when we had Yaya. This season we'll have Gundogan with a full pre season and if Mendy is left back Delph too, to cover Fernandinho.
Gundogan with full pre season? Wasnt he at the WC? Yeah, Germany got knocked out early but isnt holidays 4 weeks.

Delph, Gundogan, Danilo, Fernandinho and Zinchenko can all potentially play that role. All have different styles but Jorginho would have been different to Fernandinho anyway.

Martin is pretty relaible , so won't be surprise that Mahrez is our only signing then

Maybe but he'll be fitter than the start of last season, we'll still be better off than last season, plus we will be better equipped to play 3 at the back and play without a defensive minded midfielder. I'm disappointed we didn't get Jorginho but still think we are better off than we were last season.

the only one that can play the defensive part of that role well is Delph however his passing isn't as good as it needs to be to be there.

Ilky is dreadful defensively (great going forward, good goal scorer etc)

Danilo doesn't have the composure and for Zincehko (probably on his way out anyway) it would be a huge step.

What about Alex Garcia - was never too sure about him from the its Ive seen but he plays more defensive (not sure he is good enough however)
