Tuesday evening's live television debate on Sky News between the Conservative Party leadership candidates has been cancelled.

Two of the three candidates currently leading in the MPs ballots - Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss - have confirmed to Sky News that they do not want to take part.

Conservative MPs are said to be concerned about the damage the debates are doing to the image of the Conservative Party, exposing disagreements and splits within the party.

I love how they can have a criminal and serial liar in whom they have no confidence after his appalling behaviour who has said misogynistic, homophobic and racist things, and who looks like a burst charity clothes bag….………and then worry about damage to their image and reputation.

Ladbrokes, the betting company, says there has been a significant increase in the number of people putting money on Liz Truss to win the Tory leadership contest since yesterday. It says it had Penny Mordaunt as favourite to win the contest on Saturday morning, but that Rishi Sunak is now favourite (on evens), followed by Truss (on odds of 2/1).

I really hope its Truss just for the comedy value she is an absolute fuckwit who like Johnson is another lazy and sees her job as being one never ending photo op and taking the piss off the public purse strings.

Saw a bit last night and it was laughable, how any of them can form a cabinet nevermind run the country with all the divisions is beyond me, cant see how a general election can be called until they have a leader, unless of course they call it with the clown in charge?

I wonder if some top Tory brass have got involved and tried to pull the plug on the debates. There is no winner and the best any of them can really hope for is that no one bothers to watch it.

Cant say i watched either of them but having seen some clips on twitter its just damaging to let these people speak to each other...

I saw a report in the US recently where the GOP are trying to shut down the concept of live debates. Basically they know a lot of their candidates are awful people who will not stand up well to basic scrutiny so they are thinking of just blanket not doing it. And their is no way Trump could do them if he ran so they are looking to normalise not doing it. Not great for democracy.
