Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

I think it’s fair what you’re saying, he needs to have a clearer vision and message.

But I also think the Tories are absolutely tearing themselves apart. The country is falling apart and they seem completely oblivious to it.

The problem he’s got is, the Tories are in limbo, so his ability to be an effective opposition is in limbo also.

His messaging against Bozo will be different from his messaging against Sunak, and different again for Truss because they all have different weaknesses.

Truss being PM is the worst thing that could possibly happen for the country in the short term, I think it will end up with a General Strike and mass civil unrest.

Starmer would be seen as knight riding in on a white horse at that point.

But if he starts joining pickets now, it’s playing right in to Truss’ hands, she’ll just start painting him to the Arthur Scargill to her Thatcher, and the Shires will get behind her on that.

When things go really tits up on a General Strike, she could easily blame it all on Starmer, it’s the only hope she’s got of winning.

I appreciate it’s really shit for the RMT workers right now, but ironically enough I think Starmer keeping his head down is probably his best strategy for winning the election.

Sometimes it comes down to making a choice. My choice, when anybody is trying to deliberately fuck me up, my response it to do the same back, hopefully with interest. Why is it is it that we need to accommodate all the time? Take the pay freeze? How is that fair? Why aren’t we discussing the wages of Marketing Executives, Fund Managers, and a hundred other jobs that pay relative fortunes.

Why not demand more? Why not decide to fight rather than roll over like fucking serfs?

There is a few good points in that tweet, when places of work can’t afford to heat, do they close and make people redundant, ask them to work from home? Now what happens to schools? They have a budget are they going to send kids home from school because they just can’t afford to heat the school? Will public sector be able to carry on heating a fire station 24/7, a hospital ward etc. Theor bills are going to sky rocket as well. This is probably bigger than the crash in 2008 and Covid combined, at least with those scenarios you could stay home, now you’ll have to get on the bus to keep warm for the day, £5 for a day pass will be cheaper than heating your home. It will be a massive party on the buses (as long as they aren’t on strike)

FT throwing in the towel and calling it a day…

“Tories want the fairy tale. For many, the test is no longer what you have done but whether you believe. There is no place for questioning. Approbation comes by faith alone.” Shrimsley on Truss and the Tory slide into political infantilism

That’s been true for the last 6 years though and it now permeates through society, which is the dangerous thing. Anyone questioning anything is subject to a pile on, ’fact‘ checking and cancellation.
