Who will be the 3rd best player in Mbappé-Haaland era?

mbappe not top 3 for me, good player but a decent fullback keeps him quiet in plenty of champs league and international games (no idea about in french league as don't watch).

Their is no all round world class player of messi/maradona/pele level yet of this new generation to emerge, but they are all young.

In all fairness, people used to say the same about Messi when he come onto the scene

Wasn’t it quite a few years into his career before he never scored a goal in England in a Champions League game? people were saying he wouldn’t cut it in the Premier League for a while.

Mbappe is very good, I don’t see any of the new generation including him being as good as Messi has been, it doesn’t mean they won’t be great players in their own right.

Mbappe already has more world cup goals than Messi and he’s still in his early 20’s. He is likely going to become the all time World Cup goalscorer in the next World Cup, has already won the World Cup, and has 4 goals in World Cup finals. So if people are supposed to be keeping him quiet at international level, I would be amazed to see what the outcome would be if they weren’t.

Also in terms of the champions league..read this:

Kylian Mbappe became the youngest player to score 40 Champions League goals in November 2022. He also holds the record as the youngest player to score 35 Champions League goals and once set the mark for 30, 25, 20 and 15 (breaking Messi's record each time), as well as 10 (surpassing Karim Benzema).

Again.. exactly who is keeping him quiet?

Yeah, the likes of Walker might’ve had some good games against him, but overall he is smashing records left right and centre

Haaland could easily score 70 goals in a season. He could easily win the Champions League.

What is your point?

“Easily”?

No excuses if he doesn’t then is there Kun?

The reality is, either feat will be very difficult to achieve. Achieving both in the same season is an incredibly big ask.

If that’s what’s you’re saying would need to happen for him to win the Balon D’or, I suspect you’ll be waiting a long time.

It's not easy, but it could easily happen. He is good enough. He's at a team that is good enough.

Of course to win the Ballon d'Or you've got to perform out of your skin. If he scores 50 goals and wins the CL (if he does win the CL 50 goals is not much of a stretch for an above goal a game striker) then he'd be favourite for the Ballon d'Or. If he scored 70 goals and won nothing he'd be favourite again. If he did both, which I firmly believe he could do, he'd be basically guaranteed a Ballon d'Or without being an all rounder.

I was picking an example, that COULD happen, that completely disagrees with your assertion that scoring goals isn't enough for Haaland to win a Ballon d'Or.

i don't think Haaland is anywhere near best footballer in the world. He is a fantastic athlete with a specialised skill set and he scores loads of goals. He needs others to provide for him though and I would say, even in our squad, Foden, Bernie, Kev, Gundo are better footballers. Rodri is on a par because he too has a specialised skillset.
When it comes to who is the best footballer goals have a major influence. It is better if your goal scorer is also creative but even then if your less creative goal scorer is scoring a lot more than he gets the mantle.

Baffles me how people still don’t rate Mbappe that highly. He’s the very definition of world class. In our past few games against PSG, he’s been their most dangerous player by a country mile. Even when he doesn’t score, you still get that horrible feeling something is going to happen every time he touches the ball. Reminds me of slightly less elegant Thierry Henry. He’s a knob, but I’d love to see him at City.

Isn't Vinicius Jr being called the great talent or someone for Barcelona? Media gets the things done for them.

I could have gone for Sir Rashy too

No he doesn’t. He will need to wait another four years for that.

I know what you were doing mate.

I was merely pointing out, using a bit of humour, your example was a massive “if”, which it very clearly is.
