Why are there so many accidents between J18 & J19 of the M6

Was on the M6 this afternoon bringing my Mum back from North Staffs Hospital. The traffic build up started just a couple of miles the other side of Keele Services.Thankfully we wern`t in the queue too long as we got off at J16 for Crewe but the signs did say J18 closed (Holmes Chapel) which is where I would generally get off.

Motorways should be completely accident free, I cant understand how anyone would crash on one. Everyone going generally the same speed, in generally straight lines, with unbeatable observation ahead, and signposted exits and onslips. Shirley only real knobbers crash on them?

Utterly woeful driving causes most of it.....there must be someone who hogs the middle lane on here, infact there must be many...would anyone like to explain why they see fit to do this, there is absolutely no excuse for it.

I think the worst is that one at Bredbury where you join the motorway in the outside lane! How did it get designed like that?

That is the very worst!! Who the feck thought traffic ranging from speed limited vans and lorries, to old grannies joining a motorway directly onto the ''fast'' lane was ever going to be any kind of a good idea??

Utter fuckwit who came up with it, but complete fucktards who passed it as a goer ....

Too many cars on the road, too many lorries and too many drivers on mobiles. Should be 9 points for me for people caught on mobiles. That would stop it straight away. I go past people with their heads down looking at phones driving at 70mph plus.

Still it has always been like this on the M6. I drove back from London almost 30 years ago and it once took me 11 hrs!

My biggest bugbear is retired people clogging up rush hour traffic by deciding to go to Asda at 8am! You have got all day to go!

Having been involved a very bad accident on that stretch which we were incredibly lucky to survive, I've often wondered why this stretch is so bad. My theory is that it's straight, pretty featureless and certainly on the west side, you can't see much. So I think people just get lulled into a sort of trance-like state where they lose concentration, switch off and perhaps start thinking more about being close to home that what's going on around them.

Its part of a restricted average speed limit stretch though isnt it, as opposed to a national speed limit?

I think a lot of the middle lane wankers are probably using cruise control at what they regard as the speed everyone should be travelling at. Either that or fucking birds texting or nagging someone.

If everyone did 70 then nothing could go wrong though? That includes those using the motorway to do flipping 50mph.
