Why are we always so poor against Klopp’s Liverpool?

They come out quickly, press hard and high, and we try to play our normal high line, quick passing game. Pressure leads to mistakes, which allow them to expose the space.

Why oh why we don't sit for 10-15 mins, keep tight, let them pass the ball about in front of us, and try to nick it is beyond me. Every time we let them get in our faces and put us off our rhythm.

Klopp said before the game he knows our weaknesses. He punished them so much.

This game today with the Monaco 3-1 loss last year looks really bad on Pep. Clubs with lesser squads teaching him a lesson.

At Bayern he took over a triple winning club and got beaten in the semis 3 times in a row. But against Barca, Real, Atletico. Thoe at the time were much stronger opponents than this Monaco or Atletico. and he had no problems beating lesser teams to get to the semifinals with Munich.

Here at City he does have a problem with that as it looks like. Thats a big problem if Pep cant get us there who can? With us playing so well all season dominating the league like that and still come up way short of any good CL season thats a problem.

He may have lost his CL mojo.

They want it more.
We play teams that try to press us most weeks but the exception is that Klopps players are fitter, more intelligent and better than the rest. We also carry a few who don't relish a fight.

Thank fuck he’s got his Prem mojo.

Aren’t as good on the ball as everyone thinks. Pep’s Barcelona team could resist the press because of Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta and actually because every player was comfortable on the ball.
Look at this City team, which outfield player apart from Silva is really comfortable on the ball to resist pressing? Laporte is comfortable but played in the wrong position. All the players panicked when on the ball tonight. Even Pep’s Bayern team had world class players who were brilliant on the ball.

Fernandinho has been BRILLIANT this season but in games likes this, his lack of confidence on the ball will show which is why Casemiro starts ahead of him for Brazil.
True.

I think the same of Otamendi as you’ve said about Fernandinho

Plus we have players in other positions are young and inexperienced, and a few who have got no bollocks

I think the pitch matters. Seems slow at Anfield. Conditions are always windy. Bit of an equaliser.

He's missing Messi.

I'd say it's psychological now. It's like we're beaten before we go out on the pitch at Anfield. I remember two wins there since I've been supporting City (the early 70s). We need the equivalent of the sick Swan there to break the "curse".

Exactly right. The way we play against them is insane cos it plays to their strengths. They sit deep, wait for us to give the ball away, and then steam downfield into oceans of space like lunatics, with the searing pace and direct running to make it count. And they score early every time, which turns the ground into a bear pit. It’s like Groundhog Day and until Pep acknowledges that our way of playing suits Liverpool, and opts for a more defensive set up instead, we will get gubbed there next year, and the year after that, and the year after that......
