Why are we not scoring goals?

Over those years we’ve had and now lost naturally creative players in Leroy Sané, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gündoğan, Kevin de Bruyne is injured and the other players we have are not particularly naturally creative.

Next Summer we really need to be finding some natural creators for midfield.

Mateo Kovačić, while he does carry the ball well, doesn’t look to have a creative bone in his body.

And nobody outside our two strikers is a goalscorer. We’ve lost two players in Mahrez and Gündoğa who score about 30 goals a season combined. I’m not sure we’ll get 30 goals this season out of Foden, Kovačić, Nunes, Doku and Bobb combined.
Add Grealish and Bernardo to that list as well mate

Foden should be getting 20 in all comps this season now, provided he stays fit of course.

Agreed though, that might not still get us to 39 from those players. I'd hope it does, I'd hope the Grealish/Doku position could give us 10-15.

I raised this issue in other threads, I do worry a bit as well.

we need much more goals from the likes of Grealish, Bernardo, Kovacic, Nunes but none of these even try much to score.
Mahrez, Gundo scored a lot and assisted a lot overall past few years.

KDB creating chances out of nothing also a big miss and scoring some clutch goals.

Foden so far also not hitting the right numbers, he has scored 1 goal in PL and started 8 out of 9 games so far.
he scored 11 last season in PL, will need to start scoring few doubles to make sure he can at least reach that number.

so we have Grealish, Kovacic, Bernardo, Nunes hardly scoring, plus Foden who isnt playing badly but just not adding the goals so far.
that puts a huge pressure on Doku, Alvarez, Haaland to come up with all the goals they would need to score and also score some more to balance the lost goals from Mhrez, Gundo, KDB.
Doku is raw and will score some but his finishing aint top yet

the way it is going so far, Doku would need 10-15 goals, Alvarez 15-20 and Haaland 35 as the others are just lacking goals.Doku imo does well getting close to 10 in 1st season, Alvarez should hit 15, Haaland as long as doesnt get injured will be close to 30 imo, not sure if above it again (PL only).

all this would be enough if Grealish would add 8 goals, Bernardo 6 goals, Kovacic 5/6, Nunes 5/6, Foden 12/15, Rodri 5/6 none of these will be any close to these imo.

Im afraid Haaland will have quite a few more games where defenders isolate him successfully with him not seeing the ball too much and we are unable to play the ball to him at all. so others need to step up and so far only Alvarez is the one stepping up and no one else...
Foden is playing really well on the whole this season. He was poor in both our defeats, but he’s only behind Álvarez as our best player so far.

Yet Foden has only come up with 2 goals so far. I think Foden should now be striving towards Sterling’s best seasons (2018-2020) where he scored 25 and 31 goals.

My personal view is we’re playing with one less midfielder than we should. Alvarez is playing in place of KDB. Whilst Alvarez is doing very well, he’s not a midfielder or a winger and I think with no Gundo, Mahrez or KDB we can’t afford to play both Haaland and Alvarez in the starting 11.

While KDB is out, I would like to see the following set up (and I acknowledge it’s harsh on Alvarez).

……………Ederson
….Walker, Dias, Gvardiol
……………Rodri, Stones
..Bernardo…………….. Graelish
…………Foden…. Doku
……………..Haaland

After 9 games:
This season - 19
Last season - 33
Season before - 20
Season before - 10 (13th in the table)
Season before - 29 (lfc won the title)

I really dont think its a problem.
I don’t think anyone’s saying it’s a problem as such. We have a fantastic defence. It’s just more entertaining to score more goals

Cole Palmer was the only one who scored for us in either the Community Shield or Super Cup and he’s gone.

Mahrez is a big loss.

Whilst Gundogan scored about 10-11 goals a season typically, I think De Bruyne, Foden, Grealish and Bernie can cover that. Nunes hopefully can add a goal threat because you're quite right, Kovacic isn't going to be one!

But 15-20 goals that Mahrez scored needs to be replaced somewhere. Alvarez is only 10 behind last season's total but Haaland's scoring rate is down - he's had enough chances to probably have scored 5 more across all competitions which changes the outlook.

When you look at Doku's chances on Saturday, Mahrez probably nestles one of those into the far corner. If Doku can finish some of those chances off then he could easily chip in a good 10-15 a season.

It's a concern, I would like to see us have another attacking option. Fortunately our defence is good enough that even if we aren't quite as prolific we should be able to win the majority of our games still.

Gundogan chipped in with 10 goals a season typically, so you'd hope across Foden, Bernardo and Kev they could cover that. But Nunes and Kovacic do need to chip in and I would agree that Kovacic doesn't look a threat at all. Perhaps Nunes can be a bigger threat in the final third. Alvarez is only 10 behind last season's total already though.
