Why aren't there more clubs like Brighton and Brentford in England?

It shows the market is overinflated, buy a player from say the Dutch league for say £20m, play one good season in prem they are then apparently worth £80m - this is quite common 400% in one year and its madness. It could easily be a flash in the pan year as he rags often find out. Paying high wages, long contract, load of trf money Even ermm Daniel James...he only played 30 odd games for Swansea in 3 years! b4 the rags spent £15m plus high wages...its all none sense. The market is over inflated by aents. Much better having a great scouting system in Africa and possibly nearer to home watching Dutch League if your lazier and prepared to pay an extra £15 - 20m

That is a valid point but teams can't keep hold of those player that they have turned into stars. Look at Saints who were a top 10 team but were ripped apart by Lfc who took Vvd, Mane, Lalana & Lambert & utd with Shaw. Brighton have suffered the same fate with Trousard, White, Cucurella & Burn.

It’s a strategy though. They are presented with a choice every time and that’s the choice the club made. Owners made a tidy profit, which in the case of Brighton was re-invested in the team, so it’s not a bad choice necessarily.

Not sure that much of the money Soton received went back into the club, which makes it a different kind of decision. But in both cases it’s a choice, and they could have kept most of those players if they wanted to.

Look at Liverpool with Suarez, possibly even Spurs with Bale. Even at the top level it’s an option.

They could have held onto those players, but the money they received allowed them to do a total rebuild of their squads. It worked out fairly well for both, in the end both didn’t fully capitalise on those respective squads but for other reasons.

How has it worked out for Saints who have gone from a top 10 club to almost relegation certainties in 10 years.

If clubs come in for the players & willing to offer 2 or 3 times more in wages sometimes even more, then the selling club who have bought & nutured these players, know that they have to cave (Vvd went on strike to get his move) or let them leave on a free at the end of the players contracts.
