Why did we let Zinchenko go?

I agree with the attitude, you dont want to be here there is the Door.

I would say though certain Doors are closed Arsenal/Liverpool/Rags.

Go abroad.

I was only happy Sterling going Chelsea because it was obvious he was done at the Top level. And we robbed them :-)

I agree mate, but Pep and the board obviously didn’t think it would be a case of strengthening them

Let’s be honest here though, and I’m not just saying this to you,it’s for others who will read it as well, did we really expect Arsenal to be doing as well as they are, even they will be shocked at how well it’s going, but that’s the point, how it’s going,we are merely half way through a “strange” season shall we say,and nobody, especially our own, should be waving the white flag just yet,not including what Pep said yesterday neither about it basically being over, his emotions immediately after a defeat have still not registered in his mind,I did see him put two fingers up (not the fuck off way) as he marched past the swamp dwellers yesterday, letting them know we still second.

We can and will go on a run and we will look back at these knee jerk reactions come May and piss ourselves laughing,it’s worrying at present, agreed, but it will improve, and the thought of them 2 going to Arsenal will be the last thing on my mind

Worst decision In years
Basically giving Arsenal a head start in the title race

I don’t think letting Zinchenko go was the problem, per se. It was the failure to sign a proper replacement after missing out on Cucurella

I think he was a massive dressing room presence. He absolutely loved the club, he celebrated every goal like a fan, wasn't he almost in tears after the derby game in 20/21?

Absolutely dedicated to improving himself, writing down every piece of instruction and coaching Pep gave him and putting it in a binder at home to look over. Fighting for his place in the squad, then the bench, then the team, battling through the Ukraine invasion.

If you look at all the Arsenal behind the scenes pieces, they all talk about Zinchenko coming into the dressing room and convincing them all that they can win the title, and being a leader in a team he just joined.

Then you go back to Pep talking about the body language in the squad, unhappy faces, and Gundogan saying the magic is missing...we lost 3 massive leaders last summer but most fans only recognised 1 of them.

I think what’s going on in his homeland has a lot to do with how he beats his chest, emotional guy as well, again home related issues I’d say,but we discussing the non fact that he has made Arsenal title challengers all on his own,it’s laughable

100 %.
I said at the time that losing Gabby and Zin wasn’t just losing their playing prowess. We lost their mentality, strength and leadership which were bloody immense.

Has anyone said "he wanted to leave"? No point finding out why or reviewing it.
He only started 13 Prem games last season and 10 of those were against bottom half sides at any time in the season, the three other games were against teams no higher than 7th. Didn’t start any big Prem games and only started the Real Madrid home game because Cancelo was suspended and only came on away against Real Madrid because Walker got injured (didn’t feature in either Atlético game). And only played in the FA Cup semi against Liverpool because Pep rotated the team.

He was a squad player and wanted more than that for his career.

Funny thing is, he would have got it this season at City but there’s no way he would have known that at the time, we wanted to sell him because we wanted to bring in someone we thought was better but didn’t end up doing so.

Biggest regret with Zinchenko is we no longer have anyone who can cross the ball like he could apart from De Bruyne. He could have helped Haaland get even more goals.

He was a squad player who wanted to play regular and the footballing hierarchy got a good price for him and Jesus.

Funny how players get better by their absence - he was a decent wall to pass off for the better players, he had no pace so could only play against the teams that didn't have a pacey right winger and it wasn't very often he'd beat a man and get a cross in.
Nah sorry but this is just nonsense. He was exceptional for us. He could barely play and then come in and drop a 7.5/10. Helped us retain the ball so well, helped with the rhythm of the game, could invert and help Rodri perfectly. Was very good in the air, statistically at one point was our least dribbled past full back (per 90 min). The amount of games where we score a goal because he has played the progressive pass that turns defence into attack was mad, or because he wins a 50/50 header on the halfway line. It’s no coincidence that he has one of (if not the) best win percentage of any player to have played in the league and is on course to win his 5th title. The idea that Cucurella was an upgrade is utterly bewildering and it’s on Pep for playing Cancelo week in week out during a season of up and down form. Problem is, because he wasn’t a natural LB, if he made a mistake it was wrongly held up as evidence that we need a LB, yet whenever Cancelo dropped his weekly brain fart….radio silence.

Plenty of people thought selling him was utterly stupid so let’s not pretend it’s purely revisionist history.

He seems to love the Arsenal fans now, it’s like seeing your ex bird out on the town with her new bloke totally loved up

People really don’t understand the fluidity he gave us. When we played Leipzig in the 6-3, we really struggled in the first 10-15 mins of the game because Leipzig boxed out Rodri. Zinny moved infield to help him in the build up and we ran riot. He is press resistant, can take the ball on the half turn, was probably our most consistent and reliable progressive passer in the defensive unit, makes good decisions, is versatile and plays the type of passes that take the opposition out of the game for just long enough to give KDB etc enough space to turn. He has so many qualities that you only really pick up if you rewatch and analyse games.

Top of the league and everything going their way at present. Arsenal fans desperate for any sort of success, wouldn’t expect any different. Also they have bought some rite shite over the years so he must be a breath of fresh air.

Good player but not good enough to take the lb position at city. He offered a lot but let’s not overlook his defensive defects. Constantly caught at the back for speed and positional awareness. I love Zin and appreciate his contribution especially against Villa in the last day. We need full backs again. Forget every other position for a min. Pep really struggled when he arrived here with fb problems and we are doing so again. They are essential to our build up. New players needed.

We didn’t get rid of him, he wanted regular guaranteed starts and he was an Arsenal fan!City wanted to keep him
