Why Don't Asians Support City?

We might currently have a pint-sized Asian following, but once we eventually start winning things there'll inevitably be an influx, but since we've never traditionally had an Asian fanbase, and coming across an Asian at CoMS has always been a rare occurrence, I think they'll struggle to be accepted due to the fact that they'll be identifiable as having jumped on the bandwagon.

Personally, I don't want a single gloryhunter calling themself a City fan, whether they're Irish, Asian, English or American. Their race is insignificant, the problem is the Asians will stand out due to the fact that a matter of years ago they were rarer than a Corradi hat-trick at CoMS.

I don't want any gloryhunters at City regardless of their race, particularly adults who have little or no allegiances to any club suddenly calling themselves City fans when they didn't know we existed 3 years ago.

The younger generations will grow up with a successful City and I wouldn't begrudge them a place on Cloud 9, but I fear the day we're swam

-- Mon Aug 09, 2010 10:41 pm --

ped with gloryhunters.

A lad I used to go to a new deal course with was asian and mad about Man City, he might actually read this if he comes here, so hi Tipu.

I think the reason you dont see many asians at football, especially at away games, is maybe cause of the culture of seeing away games as one huge pissup? From what my asian mates tell me, theres not a culture of drink around so maybe thats why?

Makes no difference to me, I just see everyone as Blue or Not Blue and all are welcome :)

Does anyone remember or know how successful Bradford and/or Blackburn where are getting their local Asian communities to attened their matches? I remember both clubs, especially Bradford making a big effort.

TBH, when I went to Bradford all those years ago, there weren't many Asians in the Bradford sections, from what I could see.

Good point jrb. Unfortunately there is a lot of racial tension in Bradford and a representation of the EDL in the Bradford fan base, so you are unlikely to see a representative sample in Bradford.

When my dad owned the Canterbury Arms in Ashton, there was an Indian bloke nicknamed Harry who worked behind the bar, who was a massive City supporter, shirt on behind the bar all the time.
He copped a lot of stick(they weren't exactly pc in there),but he gave as good as he got and in nearly 40 years of supporting City,he's the only one I've ever met,but we could do with some more like him, in a word staunch.

Isn't one of United's main lads, an Asian? Remember seeing him, Tony O'Neil and some of United's firm being boxed in by GMP at the bottom of Claremont Road a good few years back.

What a refreshing change to see a well thought out and debated thred on blue moon. Normaly threds just end up people calling each other gay benders and such like.

I have been very disturbed at seeing the number of City fans who post on the racist English Defence League website. City shirts have also been seen at EDL protests. These people are racist scum.

City has an excellent reputation as a multicultural club. Balotelli has suffered from a lot of racism in Italy, not helped by the failure of a lot of his fellow professionals to stand side by side with him condemning it, lets hope we can help him when he signs for us.

We need to plan how we are going to build up our attendance with an enlarged ground in the future, being a multicultural club we should actively promote City within the asian community.
