Why haven’t Manchester City become the "super club" they should be?

The world has undoubtedly been against us but the team once built in 11/12 had purpose, a game plan and tactics sadly that hasn't always been the same since and there's been too many games where we've turned up, passed about going nowhere waiting for a superstar to do something.

However the recruitment overall has been piss-poor, too much has been wasted on players who at best you could say have been no improvement on what we had and other areas totally ignored leaving an imbalance which has cost us probably a couple more titles.

Who are the super clubs ? Barca and real Madrid, bayern munich, Milan and inter? Juvenile? rags (spit) , maybe Liverpool? Is it not a big ask to establish us amongst that lot in the five years since aguerrooooooo? These are clubs who have won an awful lot in their history and have been able to build up their fans Base accordingly ... will be interesting to see where we feature 15 or 25 years from 2012 (if football still exists in a similar state and we are not in some ludicrous euro super league) .

Concentrating on everything but the first team: New York, Melbourne, Yokohama, the CFG, the CFA, the youth teams, the womens' team, the stadium, day trippers, tourists, corporates ... set the first team back as we took our eye off the ball. The first team has to be the main focus, the most important thing to everyone at the club and it wasn't and we went backwards as a result.
Was going to post this myself. Everything should have gone in to consolidating and building on the FA Cup & title win. Also when Mancini tried to hold the club to ransom after the title win, we should have been ruthless, called his bluff and given Guardiola the job. Then put all our time and energy into dominating the PL and CL. Once we'd done that was the time to think about other franchises (which I'd say 95% or more of us don't give a shit about) and the rest.

Guardiola never wanted the job at the time and that is why he never ended up here. He wanted a break and then agreed to go to Bayern even though we had been in contact about managing us.

Depth of squad, we could afford to have Tevez playing golf most of the season and not be hampered with scoring goals. We could bring De Jong or Milner on and not suffer a huge drop off in talent comapared with what we have in Delph and Fernando.

A more disciplined style of play, Gareth Barry was a huge mistake getting rid of as he would sit in the centre circle and give a cynicle foul if a break happened or drop in at full back if Clichy or Zaba went forward. only one Premier league title has been won by playing cavalier football in the last 5 years and that was us. The rest have been defensively solid teams.

Next there is the issue of Gary Cooke, his gaff over the Nedum's mum. If he hadn't have been so negligent and kept his crass jokes to himself he might have been still in the job and be part of the football administration with Brian Marwood that managed to identify Silva,Toure,Aguero,Tevez,Dzeko,Barry,Kompany,Zabaleta,Lescott and co were the right people to bring to the club. What's our current director of football record? Sane,Jesus,Kdb and maybe Fernandinho at a push?

Other question with bringing in the spaniards is would we have gone down the Pellegrini then Guardiola route? The club is on a sound financial footing with Soriano and you can't knock him for that but the disconnect with the fans and obsession with sticking more and more hospitality in the stadium I've never known so much apathy amongst City fans and we are not being listened to. Nearly 60 quid for a ticket today for the visit of mighty Leicester says it all really.

Because we are doing things differently. To compete with Bayern, Juventus, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, we need to have stronger roots domestically and have strong international branches, something which we have been successfully cultivating. However, the fruits of this will not be seen quickly, as alas is the wont of the modern supporter, but may take a decade or more. We will inevitably make mistakes and have obstacles placed in our way, but patience will be rewarded.

At the moment we are not looking to compete with those teams but challenge those at the top of the Premiership which we have not done for the past three seasons. This requires none of what you have listed above. We require a good recruitment policy and a balanced squad what we had in 2012.

Won the prem too early, hence expectation have risen dramatically. I don't think we have done too bad from a standing start.

The rags have shown in the last 4 years that spending big doesn't guarantee much in the big two comps.

We have disappointed at times and need to get back on track but overall it ain't too bad.
